Financial Services Specialist

The Financial Services Specialist performs duties in the Call Center, Lending Area, or Operations Department as assigned. The role includes providing accurate and detailed information to credit union members concerning credit union services and policies, including shares, audio express, share drafts, certificates, IRA's, payroll deduction, loans, Visa, and automated teller machine cards. Members will be greeted in person or by telephone, and transactions requested or directed to the proper person. All requests for services by members are processed in a timely manner in accordance with credit union policies and procedures. The specialist is responsible for marketing credit union products and services by cross-selling, operating and maintaining a working knowledge of the data processing system, and acting as the "personal image" of the credit union by greeting members in a warm, courteous manner. The specialist also conducts loan interviews and processes loan applications in accordance with credit union policies and procedures and all applicable laws.

The specialist provides in-person or telephone detailed information concerning credit union services or policies, answers member questions and resolves account problems, assists loan officers in obtaining information from members, and prepares payroll change reports. The specialist approves loan requests within authorized limits, quotes accurate loan pay-off information, and recommends exception approval to the Director of Lending or designee. The specialist oversees the follow-up system of loan documentation and returns titles or deeds of trust to members when loans are paid.

The specialist obtains information from members for Consumer and Mortgage Applications, processes loan requests, analyzes credit reports, prepares loan documents, disburses loan funds, and performs all other duties needed to assist in the loan approval process. The specialist verifies and insures that all mortgage requests are within credit union policy and procedures, performs borrower prequalification assessment, and coordinates the process of approved loans. The specialist ensures mortgages are processed according to agreement, member needs, and conform to credit union lending policies, and obtains sufficient information and / or documentation from members. The specialist solves problems relative to processing and servicing of loans within portfolio, approves loan disbursements in accordance with agreements, and recommends exception approval to the Director of Lending.

The specialist oversees credit union support programs, ensures programs are in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles and credit union policy, and ensures data processing for support programs is efficient and effective. The specialist processes Automated Clearing House items, payroll postings, requests for Visa program, items for the ATM and ARU program, and items for the Share Draft program. The specialist responds to reporting requirements of programs, maintains and files reports of the support programs, and performs all duties of the Data Processing Coordinator as assigned.

Education : High School diploma or equivalency required. Business or technical training desired.

Experience : Two years financial institution experience required. One year of credit union experience required.

Job Knowledge : Must have complete knowledge of credit union policies and procedures and applicable credit union law. Must be knowledgeable of credit union services, interest rates, and have the ability to counsel members on investment accounts.

Abilities and Skills : Must have the ability to communicate effectively with others by telephone or in person. Must be able to grasp the effects of member requests as they relate to individual accounts.

Essential Functions : Speech, Sight, Hearing, Dexterity, Mobility, Stooping, Bending, Sitting. Must be able to lift up to 30lbs.

Working Conditions : Must be willing to work overtime during peak periods.

Anticipated Pay Range :

Duke University provides an annual base salary range for this position as USD $18.00 to USD $26.62.
