Overall Purpose :
The CNC Lathe Machinist Lead – 2nd Shift is a key leadership role responsible for overseeing evening shop operations, training team members, and ensuring production goals are achieved with safety, accuracy, and efficiency. This individual will act as the closing lead, managing workflow, maintaining organization, and ensuring all CNC Lathe operations are executed to Masterbilt’s high standards.

Essential Job Functions & Expected Outcomes :
Leadership & Training
- Lead, train, and mentor CNC Lathe Machinists and operators on 2nd shift.
- Ensure team members follow proper setup, operation, and inspection procedures.
- Create and manage shift schedules, assignments, and daily task lists.
- Maintain communication with the day shift lead and production management to ensure workflow continuity.
- Foster a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and teamwork.
Operational Excellence
Plan machining processes by studying work orders, part blueprints, and GD&T specifications.Set up, operate, and troubleshoot CNC lathe machines to meet production standards.Maintain quality control by inspecting parts, verifying dimensions, and adjusting programs as needed.Troubleshoot and resolve equipment or process issues to minimize downtime.Shop Management
Oversee end-of-shift responsibilities, including shop organization, cleaning, and closing procedures.Ensure tools and equipment are properly maintained and stored.Report any maintenance or operational issues to the appropriate personnel.Uphold all safety and quality assurance procedures.Documentation & Communication
Complete production and quality logs with accuracy.Communicate any production delays, quality issues, or personnel concerns to management.Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and support lean manufacturing efforts.Requirements :
Position Requirements :
Education :
High school diploma or equivalent required.Experience :
Minimum 4–5 years of CNC machining experience required.At least 1–2 years in a lead or training role preferred.Strong experience with CNC lathe setup, operation, and troubleshooting.Functional Skills :
Strong attention to detail and mechanical aptitude.Advanced blueprint reading and GD&T interpretation skills.Knowledge of cutting tools, offsets, feeds, and speeds.Proven ability to lead and motivate a team.Familiarity with lean manufacturing principles.Technology Aptitude / Skills :
Proficient with CNC Lathe machines and controls (Fanuc, Okuma, Haas, or similar).Leadership & Behavioral Competencies :

Physical Requirements :
Ability to stand for up to 8 hours per shift.Lift up to 75 lbs occasionally.Frequent bending, kneeling, reaching, and walking.Ability to communicate effectively in English.________________________________________
