Locum Tenens General Surgeon 24-Hour ER & Inpatient Coverage We are actively seeking a Board-Certified General Surgeon to provide locum tenens hospital and ER coverage at a community-based facility in a Level IV Trauma setting . This opportunity arises due to a recent vacancy in a 3-surgeon practice. You'll work alongside committed local and regional providers to ensure uninterrupted surgical access and patient care. Position Overview : This position involves 24-hour general surgery coverage , with a typical volume of 34 patients per day , focused on routine emergency, inpatient, and consultative general surgical care. The ideal candidate will demonstrate adaptability, clinical independence, and a commitment to high-quality, timely surgical intervention. Key Responsibilities : Perform full-spectrum general surgery assessments, diagnostics, and procedures per established scope of practice. Respond to ER consults and inpatient surgical needs in a timely and clinically appropriate manner. Ensure accurate and thorough documentation, coding, and billing in accordance with regulatory and organizational standards. Collaborate with local medical staff, specialists, and transfer teams to ensure continuity and quality of care. Provide patient and family education to support clinical understanding and care outcomes. Participate in care coordination, quality improvement processes, and institutional best practices as needed. Clinical Setting : Level IV Trauma Designation 24-hour surgical call (in-house or rapid response within defined radius) Support from hospitalists and community / regional surgeons No clinic duties required Qualifications : MD or DO from an accredited program Completion of ACGME / AOA-accredited general surgery residency Board Certified by the American Board of Surgery (or actively pursuing within 3 years post-training) Active or eligible for unrestricted state medical license and DEA ATLS certification preferred Physical Demands : Ability to manage high-stakes clinical decisions and perform procedures in emergent settings Frequent standing, walking, and use of surgical tools and electronic documentation systems Occasional heavy lifting and positioning of patients or equipment Why This Role : This is a highly impactful locum opportunity for a skilled general surgeon who values autonomy, thrives in community environments, and seeks to make a meaningful difference during a transitional period of local surgical coverage.
