Job Title : Controller Vice President FLSA : Exempt
Reports To : Chief Financial Officer
GENERAL SUMMARY
The Controller is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Accounting Department and provides staff oversight to ensure the completion of routine duties. This role encompasses general accounting functions including the preparation and analysis of monthly financial statements external reporting accounts payable fixed assets and general ledger reconciliations and system maintenance.
The position requires a high degree of initiative discretion and independent judgment as well as advanced knowledge of accounting principles and bank operations. The Controller reports to the CFO and / or President and ensures compliance with bank policies procedures and all applicable state and federal banking regulations including the Bank Secrecy Act.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The following are primary duties though not all-inclusive. Additional tasks may be assigned as needed.
Administrative Responsibilities
Directs all aspects of accounting operations including general ledger receivables payables and fixed asset control.
Oversees investment accounting reviewing investment reports and reconciling all investment accounts including safekeeping.
Manages Treasury operations including daily liquidity monitoring and overnight arbitrage for optimal returns.
Ensures the accuracy of the general ledger including monthly reconciliations and staff-reviewed schedules.
Reviews general ledger coding for accounts payable to ensure timely and accurate processing.
Coordinates and oversees month-end procedures and adjustments for accruals prepaid expenses depreciation dividends loan interest investment income etc.
Reviews income and expense accounts for accuracy prior to monthly closings ensuring compliance with GAAP.
Maintains responsibility for delivering exceptional internal and external member service in alignment with service standards.
Promotes corporate mission values and long-term objectives.
Hires trains supervises and evaluates department staff.
Prepares the Call Report.
Assists in preparing annual IRS returns (Forms 945 and 990).
Assists in annual escheatment filings.
Ensures ongoing compliance with BSA / AML OFAC and USA PATRIOT Act regulations.
Supports internal and external audits by providing required documentation.
Maintains fixed asset records posts depreciation and conducts annual inventories.
Ensures department compliance with audit standards recommending and implementing corrective actions as necessary.
Assists the CFO in implementing cost controls and monitoring departmental expenses.
Resolves accounting inquiries from other departments and provides cross-functional support.
Maintains awareness of financial industry trends and updates.
Serves as a backup for critical functions in staff absences or high-volume periods.

Ensures compliance with OSHA and other safety standards.
Functional Responsibilities
Ensures the accurate preparation of internal and data-processor-generated reports.
Develops tests and implements accounting policies and procedures (manual and system-based).
Responds to and resolves complex customer inquiries or issues.
Monitors staff productivity task completion and quality control.
Manages departmental resources for maximum efficiency.
Leads or participates in special projects; compiles reports for senior management or audits.
Supports staff development through coaching training and effective delegation.
Conducts performance evaluations disciplinary actions and hiring decisions.
Creates and manages staff schedules ensuring adequate coverage.
Uses bank systems (e.g. Fiserv Premier) to perform account reviews problem resolution and other duties.
Performs other tasks as assigned by the CFO and / or President.
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Education and Experience :
Three (3) years of supervisory experience preferably within a financial institution.
Ongoing professional development through industry training or education is preferred.
Technical Skills :
Strong understanding and application of GAAP particularly within financial institutions.
Proficiency with accounting systems and PC applications (Microsoft Excel Word etc.); working knowledge of Fiserv Premier strongly preferred.
Advanced knowledge of budgeting payroll and financial recordkeeping.
Familiarity with state and federal compliance regulations.
Strong analytical skills for reviewing financial and statistical data.

Proven ability to supervise train and develop staff in a positive and effective manner.
Strong organizational and time management skills.
