Our client, a US Fortune 250 company and a global medical technology corporation serving customers in Clinical Labs, Health care research & Pharmaceutical industry, seeks an accomplished Senior Calibration Technician / Metrologist.

Job Title : Senior Calibration Technician / Metrologist

Location : San Jose, CA 95111

Duration : 6-month contract with possible extension

Pay Rate : $40 / hr – $46 / hr (depending on experience)

Schedule :

  • Monday–Friday, 7 : 00 AM – 3 : 30 PM or 8 : 00 AM – 4 : 30 PM

  • Job Summary :

    The Senior Calibration Technician / Metrologist supports manufacturing and R&D by performing equipment calibration, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs. This role executes validations for new equipment installations, develops new calibration methods and procedures, and provides training on calibration and maintenance processes as needed.

    Duties & Responsibilities :

  • Independently calibrate, test, and maintain measurement equipment, including but not limited to : refrigeration and temperature control systems, balances, temperature probes, pressure monitors, thermo mixers, environmental chambers, thermocouples, multimeters, freezers, centrifuges, incubators, Heise gauges, ultrasonic baths, conductivity meters, magnehelic gauges, pressure modules, digital pressure gauges, RH sensors, and temperature controllers.
  • Follow calibration procedures or manufacturer’s instructions.
  • Perform minor equipment repairs as required.
  • Develop calibration methods and techniques based on measurement science, technical analysis, and precision requirements.
  • Manage scheduled calibration activities and prioritize work requests efficiently.
  • Maintain accurate calibration documentation and data entries in BMRAM (Calibration Database).
  • Create measurement data templates and work plan templates in BMRAM.
  • Assist in creating and updating calibration procedures.
  • Provide guidance to engineers / equipment owners regarding new equipment purchases to ensure suitability and calibration capability.
  • Serve as Local Administrator of the Environmental Monitoring System (VAISALA) : monitor alarms, verify acknowledgements and justifications, troubleshoot, train users, and grant access.
  • Expand in-house calibration capabilities to reduce reliance on external services.
  • Support internal and external audits by responding to auditor questions and requests.
  • Act as back-up to the Calibration Coordinator for scheduling outside service calibrations and maintenance.
  • Stay current on compliance requirements and participate in required regulatory training.
  • Follow Environmental, Health & Safety (EH&S) policies and procedures, reporting unsafe conditions and participating in safety programs.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
  • Minimum Qualifications :

    Knowledge & Skills :

  • Previous employment in a Metrology Lab.
  • Strong understanding of Calibration & Metrology principles within Current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP).
  • Proficiency in mathematical concepts such as significant figures, rounding, averages, standard deviation, and unit conversions.
  • Training or certification in calibration and repairs (preferred).
  • Experience executing equipment validation tests.
  • Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Computer proficiency with Microsoft Windows, Excel, Word, and calibration database applications (e.g., Blue Mountain Software).
  • Ability to work independently, responsibly, and dependably.
  • Adaptive, cooperative, and effective communicator (written and verbal).
  • Education & Experience :

  • High School Diploma required.
  • 6–10 years of experience as a Senior-level Calibration Technician.
  • Certification in Metrology / Calibration through on-the-job training or technical school preferred.
