Responsibilities

Perform forensic examinations of individuals who have been sexually assaulted and provide related patient care and referrals.

Take a medical history and account of the assault from the patient. Assess the patient\'s psychological condition and performs physical examination.

Collect and preserve all evidence, collects relevant specimens and documents findings.

Provide direct nursing care of injuries and prophylactic medications. Refer to appropriate personnel / facility for further treatment as necessary.

Communicate with victims and their families regarding evidence collection, treatment recommendations and reporting to law enforcement (except in cases of mandated reporting). Provide victim advocacy and / or expert testimony in court trials.

Requirements

Licensure / Certification / Registration :

Required Credential(s) :

BLS Provider obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.

Registered Nurse credentialed from the Tennessee Board of Nursing obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date.

Preferred Credential(s) :

• Certification specializing in Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner.
