Description :
The Licensed Practical Nurse is responsible for the performance of basic nursing duties.
This includes the execution of physician orders, operation of pill call, and operation of sick call.
The nurse assists the physician in examinations and treatments and performs technical / clinical procedures within the scope of his / her license.
The nurse assists in the professional management of the medical department.
Appropriate nursing skills are applied in the care and treatment of clients.
The nurse attends sick call with the physician to see clients.
They prepare a list of clients to be examined and prepare the examining room and equipment.
The nurse operates pill call, dispenses medication, and documents as required by applicable policies and / or procedures.
Medication, syringes, and other medical supplies or equipment are controlled and inventoried as required by established procedures.
Emergency procedures are performed as needed.
The nurse keeps equipment and work areas clean and utilizes appropriate sanitation methods.
Documentation and reporting of activities are carried out in accordance with established policies and / or procedures.
This includes medical file documentation.
Additional Responsibilities :
Assist supervisor with evaluating the provision of all medical services.
Maintain security and confidentiality of all medical records.
Observe and record client behavior.
Inspect the medical unit for items that could be used as contraband.
Securely store or safely dispose of supplies and equipment.
Assist with preparing and maintaining a variety of standard records, reports, and logs.
Read, comprehend, and interpret medical and technical procedures, governmental regulations, and legal documents.
Respond to lawsuits and attend court hearings when necessary.
Conduct research of charts and review the status of clients with serious health problems.
Effective communication is required with administration, staff, clients, visitors, and the general public.
Help evaluate and recommend physical safety requirements to provide a safe working environment.
Facilitate required levels of efficiency and approved medical services.
Prepare and disseminate safety and accident reports as required.
Take appropriate action in cases of serious and unusual incidents and emergencies.
Coordinate the movement of clients to and from different areas for medical treatment.
Help initiate and complete investigations and inquiries with accuracy.
Engage in functions in confined areas and check the security of doors and windows.
Be aware of potential verbal abuse from clients in antagonistic environments.
