Unit Charge Nurse
EDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS AND CREDENTIALS
Must possess a current, active certification as a Medication Aide in the state of Kentucky. Must demonstrate knowledge of and ability to administer medications per facility policy and within the scope of practice.
JOB ROLE
- Recognize your role as part of the QAPI efforts of your organization.
- Attend trainings to build understanding and capacity to undertake QAPI work.
- Carry out QAPI roles and responsibilities as assigned.
- Follow established policies and procedures in support of QAPI efforts.
- Look for, and share with leadership, ideas for improvement in the organization.
- Communicate to leadership upon witnessing a positive outcome of a QAPI project or detecting barriers preventing project success.
- Support QAPI efforts both verbally and non-verbally (i.e., via actions and attitude), including adjusting performance and practice in accordance with QAPI initiatives and findings.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Consistently model and demonstrate excellence in customer service, with a constant focus on person-centered care / services delivery.Receives report from off-going shift and documents receipt of medication cart keys from off-going shift.Counts narcotics with the oncoming shift and off-going shift and reports any discrepancy to the unit charge nurse.Administers medications / treatments as ordered by the attending physician within scope of practice per facility policy.Documents medication and treatment administration per facility policy.Maintains medication cart in a clean and orderly condition.Receives and handles medications delivered from the pharmacy and orders refill medication from pharmacy as needed per facility policy.Maintains resident clinical records per facility policy.Obtains and documents resident vital signs as assigned.Notifies the unit charge nurse of any abnormal resident findings, including but not limited to physical, psychosocial and / or spiritual issues.Assists the unit charge nurse with resident admissions, transfers and discharges as necessary.Assists with orientation of new personnel as directed.Completes shift functions of the unit as assigned, including but not limited to obtaining periodic weights of each individual resident on the assigned unit.Assist with resident meals including passing trays or providing service of food to residents in dining rooms, feeding dependent residents, collecting trays and documenting meal consumption per facility policy.Reports any allegations of abuse, neglect, exploitation or misappropriation of resident property per facility policy.Gives report and documents transfer of medication cart keys to the oncoming shift.KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS
Knowledge of current federal and state laws and regulations that apply to the practice of nursing in a long-term care setting. Has strong organizational and time management skills and the ability to prioritize responsibilities. Ability to define problems, collect date, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
