Sr Accountant

Software Guidance & Assistance, Inc., (SGA), is searching for an SENIOR ACCOUNTANT for a CONTRACT role (2-3 months duration - potential to convert full-time) with one of our premier UTILITY clients in SAN JOSE, CA, CLINTON, CT, ROCKPORT, ME or NEW BRAUNFELS, TX (hybrid 3 days onsite weekly Tues, Wed, Thurs) .

Position Summary

The Senior Accountant is responsible for delivering excellent service to our customers and shareholders by performing a wide variety of tasks associated with the completion and maintenance of the Company's financial systems and reports. The Senior Accountant will assist in the preparation of balance sheets and income statement analysis for senior management

Specific Responsibilities

• Assists in monthly, quarterly, and annual closing of books and the reconciliation of balance sheet accounts, corrections, and journal entries.
• Prepares a variety of financial reports, including annual reports, the Public Utilities Regulatory Authority, and various other agencies.
• Assists in the preparation of the quarterly variance and account analysis reports for external audit firm.
• Assists in the preparation of the External Auditor & Sarbanes-Oxley work papers concerning quarter and year-end information. Provides support for ongoing audit and SOX requirements.
• Assests in the implementation of software upgrades as needed or as requested by Management, such as general ledger (JD Edwards) or property accounting (PowerPlan) software.
• Prepares and reviews journal entries, which may include maintenance of certain recurring entries, indexed computation entries, and compilation of utility / regulatory accounting entries.
• Support treasury, budget and rate case processes.
• Assist in the maintenance of the chart of accounts for all companies.
• Performs other duties or special projects as required or as assigned.
