Position until March 2026, with the possibility of becoming permanent

Works independently and provides direction to lower-level mechanics.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Repairs a variety of heavy equipment and tactical and commercial vehicles.
  • Maintains, repairs, rebuilds a variety of engines, brake systems, drive trains, suspension systems and electrical systems.
  • Provides support in testing and maintenance of developmental and fielded items to include tracked vehicles, heavy equipment, trucks, trailers, forklifts, fixed and mobile equipment, both tactical and commercial.
  • Duties require application of extensive practical knowledge of various equipment areas such as mechanical, electrical, pneumatic and hydraulic systems.
  • Operates and maintains all forms of automotive and support type equipment using a wide range of mechanical concepts and principles.
  • Troubleshoots and diagnoses faults by using the proper diagnostic equipment. Interprets wiring schematics and hydraulic flow charts.
  • Documents repairs needed, recommends / research repair parts, and completes required paperwork.
  • Repairs and services automotive air conditioning systems used with automotive and support equipment.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Must have 3 years applicable experience or completion of formal training and 2 years applicable experience.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Class A, 25% must have the Tanker endorsement.
  • Must present a current DOT Medical Examiner's Certificate (MEC) issued by a certified medical provider listed on the Register of Certified Medical Examiners.
  • Subject to pre-employment and ongoing Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) checks to confirm a safe driving history.
  • Must pass a DOT-compliant pre-employment drug screen and participate in an employer-administered drug and alcohol testing program, which includes :
  • Random testing

  • Post-accident testing
  • Reasonable suspicion testing
  • Return-to-duty and follow-up testing (if applicable)
  • Must consent to a full query of the FMCSA Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse prior to hire, and to annual limited queries during employment.
  • Must report any CDL suspensions, disqualifications, or convictions for traffic violations in accordance with Federal regulations.
  • Must know and follow state and federal commercial vehicle regulations enforced by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration and Department of Transportation.
  • Must possess a Refrigerant Recovery and Recycling Certification.

  • Physical Qualifications

  • The work of this position is performed in an environmentally controlled office environment and sometimes in the field where you are subject to the environment.
  • Must be capable of squatting, crouching, standing, climbing, stooping, and sitting, sometimes for extended periods while performing duties.
  • Must be able to lift 75 lbs. unassisted.
  • Must be able to ascend and descend equipment.
  • Must be able to visually distinguish colors.
  • Must be able to use hands to handle, control, or feel objects, tools, or controls.
  • Must be able to repeat the same movements.
  • Must have good manual dexterity.
  • Must be able to wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for work tasks assigned.

    Rate of Pay / Benefits

    Hourly Rate : $42.37
