POSITION SUMMARY:
The Engineering Coordinator plans the activities of technicians within the following areas operations, maintenance, and project management functions. The functions listed are necessary to maintain the physical structures, HVAC mechanical, electrical systems, utilities and grounds in an operative and safe working condition.
POSITION EDUCATION/ QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School/GED preferred
- Associate's degree in Engineering, Business, Construction Management or other related field of study preferred
- Must possess valid Texas driver's license required
- Ability to read, write and follow written and oral instructions.
- Computer skills required with knowledge of Microsoft Office suite.
- Some evening or weekend work will be required
- Manual dexterity is needed to handle tools.
- Minimum computer skills
- Must be able to be sensitive to cultural and bilingual issues.
- Good written and verbal communication skills required.
- Ability to read, write and speak English
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely with all levels of nursing, administration, and physicians
- Prefer hospital experience
JOB KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE:
• Five (5) years of progressive engineering - One (3) year Leading Skills
- Practical experience in such fields as stationary engineering, generators, HVAC and plumbing
- Possess knowledge of materials, tools and equipment used in building, mechanical, boiler and electrical maintenance repair and construction activities. Minimum
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Possess a working knowledge of heating and cooling, plumbing, electrical, mechanical and carpentry skills and the ability to read and interpret blue prints.
- Knowledge in Federal, State and Local building codes and safety codes and safety regulations required.
- Ability to use hand and power tools.
- Knowledge of current regulatory requirements.
- Knowledge of State, Federal, and JCAHO regulations
Responsibilities:
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES: - Promotes the facility mission, vision and values by effectively communicating them to others. Considers mission, vision and values in developing services, standards and practice
- Ensures engineering staff complete work order assignments and all scheduled preventive maintenance in a safe and timely manner
- Review daily records of time spent on service requests, work orders, projects, etc. Completes appropriate reports
• Provides information for productions, progress, costs records and reports
- Conducts routine inspections of work performed
• Using the applicable codes; sets the standards of quality and acceptable work performance.
• Maintains a working knowledge of the trade which license is held.
• Follow State and Local Building Codes and NFPA Code Requirements.
• Subject to "On-Call"/"Call-In" after hour's requirements to support emergencies.
• Read and interpret blue prints.
• Reviews and comments on design, drawings and specifications.
• Work with outside vendors and agencies.
- Coordinate activities with customers to minimize disruptions to hospital services.
• Administers the safety program and acceptable trade procedures.
• Assist and guide the efforts of lower level technicians.
• Maintains a working knowledge of building utility systems, emergency procedures, and engineering policies and procedures.
• Demonstrates knowledge of electrical, fire and environmental safety policies and procedures as they apply to the work environment.
• Meets performance expectations for Customer Service, Teamwork, Resource Utilization, and Staff and Self Development as outlined in performance review. - Works shifts as needed/assigned - variable
- Maintains and documents a complete and precise record system of all patient rooms, and building Plumbing pm's or repairs.
- Organizes and maintains spare parts and supply inventory.
- Makes repairs to equipment and fixtures and cleans equipment.
- Participates in Emergency Preparedness Plans.
- Assist in any project - wall mountings - or repairs - assemblies - as required.
- Follows and Documents all J.C.A.H.O. - T.D.H. - O.S.H.A. Guidelines and Requirements in this area.
- Assist in any other area of Engineering as directed.
- Stays aware of surroundings - monitors and reports all aspects of hospital while performing assignments or making rounds in hospital.
- HIPAA - Adheres to DHR policies and procedures regarding privacy and security of health information.
- Works collaboratively to provide a safe environment for not only the patient, but staff and visitors.

Employees must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served in his/her assigned unit. Working Conditions: The individual spends over 95% of his/her time in an air-conditioned environment with varying exposures to noise. There is protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes. The position does have low exposure to malodorous, infectious body fluids from patients and some minimal exposure to noxious smells from cleansing agents.

Occupational Exposure: This position has minimal to no exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues and is an OSHA Category III (although situations can be imagined or hypothesized under which anyone, anywhere, might encounter potential exposure to body fluids). Person who performs these duties are not called upon as part of their employment to perform or assist in emergency medical care or first aid or to be potentially exposed in some other way.
