Senior Accountant / Assistant Controller
Location : Cedar Rapids, IA | On-Site

businesses with strategic and financial solutions. They are seeking aSenior Accountant / Assistant Controller to join their finance team in Cedar Rapids, IA.

You will have broad responsibility across corporate and operational accounting functions from transaction-level work to strategic financial support. This hands-on role requires someone who can dive into the details on a day-to-day basis while maintaining a big-picture mindset, helping strengthen processes and support financial decisions across multiple businesses.

This is a hands-on position that requires transaction processing, account reconciliation and financial reporting skills.
Key Responsibilities :
- Lead accurate general ledger accounting, including month-end close, account reconciliations, and financial analyses
- Support and develop team members through training in accounts payable, accounts receivable, reconciliations, and journal entries
- Working closely with various business units to provide financial information and analysis that support business growth
- Maintain and strengthen an internal control structure that ensures the integrity of all financial information
- Provide monthly financial support to various business units, including prepare and compile monthly financial reports; process and post journal entries and accruals; ensure expenses are recorded in the correct periods; and distribute departmental performance reports
- Analyze spending variances and ensure reported results comply with GAAP and internal policies.
- Stay current on organizational procedures, federal and state regulations, and accounting standards.
- Proactively lead continuous improvement efforts to enhance accuracy, efficiency, and compliance across accounting processesstreamlining workflows while maintaining strong internal controls.
Education and Experience :
Bachelors degree required; Accounting preferred.CPA designation preferred but not required.Minimum of 4 years of progressive accounting experience, ideally within the construction industry.Strong written and verbal communication skills; proactively communicates status, priorities, and issues across teams.Proven ability to manage multiple responsibilities while exercising sound analytical and decision-making skills.Experience with business taxation and preparing or reviewing tax returns preferred.Working knowledge of tax reporting and regulatory compliance requirements.Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook).Highly organized, detail-oriented, and capable of meeting deadlines in a fast-paced environment.Adaptable and comfortable managing change and shifting priorities.Willing to travel occasionally to company locations as needed.Knowledge, Skills and Abilities :
