Parks Maintenance Worker
Hiring pay rate for this position is $18.77 / hour. Under the direct supervision of the Parks Maintenance Operations Manager, or designee. Performs unskilled and semi-skilled manual labor related to functions in the Parks Maintenance Division of the Public Works Department. Assignments include maintaining City parks, grounds, buildings, and recreational areas in accordance with City ordinances and Departmental policies. Requires the ability to be contacted by telephone for call-out after hours. Work is reviewed through observations and obtained results.
Essential Job Functions :
- Operates and maintains tractor mower, power mowers, edgers and clippers, and other equipment used in landscaping and grounds maintenance.
- Duties include mowing, edging, trimming, raking, weeding plant beds, pruning shrubs and small trees, repair sprinkler systems, planting, watering and fertilization.
- Prepares clay infields, spiking and digging of ball fields.
- Performs fence, carpentry, and irrigation and playground repairs.
- Prepares site and equipment set ups for special City events.
- Empties garbage cans and picks up trash and debris from City grounds.
- Acts as lead worker on specific projects and assignments.
- Some evening and / or weekend work will be required.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications :
Knowledge of the tools used in maintenance and construction work.Knowledge of occupational hazards connected with maintenance and construction work.Knowledge of the materials, methods and practices used in construction work.Ability to learn methods of maintaining buildings.Ability to physically perform light to heavy manual labor in all weather conditions.Ability to understand, communicate, and follow both oral and written instructions.Skill in the safe operation of light to heavy equipment specific to task assigned.Training and Experience : Graduation from high school; or GED; one (1) year experience in landscaping, public works, construction; or an equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Green Industries Best Management Practices Certification required, or the ability to obtain within twelve (12) months from the date of hire. Valid Florida Driver's License.
