The Database Administrator (DBA) is responsible for the delivery, performance, and maintenance of the Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW) supporting the Medicaid agency. This role requires deep expertise in large healthcare data, Teradata systems, and database operations, including hardware / software support, security, and performance optimization.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and maintain on-prem Teradata systems, including patches, upgrades, and hardware replacements.
- Perform database backup and recovery using BAR DSA and NetBackup.
- Monitor system health and performance using Viewpoint and other tools; take proactive or corrective actions as needed.
- Support Teradata workload management (TASM), access rights, and security administration.
- Lead and support disaster recovery (DR) testing and maintenance.
- Coordinate with Teradata and subcontractors for system hardening and SCSEM reporting.
- Generate and maintain reports on capacity, CPU, I / O, and storage usage.
- Review and resolve system alerts; communicate risks and issues to stakeholders.
- Provide guidance to developers on database design, SQL optimization, and implementation best practices.
- Support EDW users with issue resolution (e.g., job slowdowns, RI constraints, PPIs).
- Maintain front-end tool (OpenText BI-Query) and associated models.
- Participate in audits (IRS / internal) and address vulnerabilities.
- Lead database-related meetings and projects; mentor team members.
Data Engineering Scope
Database architecture, design, optimization, and administration.Data modeling, ETL development, and big data engineering.Cloud and Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) solutions focused on data ecosystems.Ensure data quality, security, and compliance with business and contractual requirements.Required Qualifications :
7+ years of experience as a Teradata DBA on Version 15+ (preferably 17+) and experience leading Teradata major upgrade / floor sweep5+ years of experience as primary / lead DBA with solid leadership and presentation skills5+ years of experience writing complex SQL using SQL Assistant / Teradata Studio3+ years of experience with Teradata 6800 / 1800 system or IntelliFlex3+ years of experience extracting, loading, and transforming structured / unstructured data using Teradata Utilities (FastLoad, Multiload, FastExport, BTEQ, TPT) in a Unix / Linux environment3+ years of experience performance tuning in a large database (>5TB) or data warehouse environment, using advanced SQL, DBQL and Explain plans
3+ years of experience analyzing project requirements and developing detailed database specifications, tasks, dependencies, and estimates3+ years of experience identifying and initiating resolutions to customer facing problems and concerns associated with a query or database related business needData warehouse or equivalent system experienceDemonstrated excellent verbal / written communication, end client facing, team collaboration, mentoring skills, and solid work ethicsDemonstrated solid culture fit through integrity, compassion, inclusion, relationships, innovation, and performancePreferred Qualifications :
