Accounting Manager / Small Company Controller

Location : Stamford, CT - full-time onsite

Compensation : up to $85,000

POSITION OVERVIEW :

CFS is partnering with a mission-driven nonprofit organization seeking an experienced Accounting Manager / Small Company Controller. The ideal candidate will foster a structured and positive workplace culture and thrive in a fast-paced, purpose-led environment. Reporting to the Executive Director, the Controller will manage all financial functions and oversee key operational areas while supporting a dedicated team working toward the organization's goals.

Key Responsibilities

Prepare and review financial statements to support strategic planning.

Allocate costs and monitor program vs. administrative spending.

Analyze financial data and present insights to leadership.

Ensure compliance with accounting standards and lead annual audits.

Oversee daily accounting functions including A / P, A / R, and payroll.

Ensure timely and accurate transaction recording and reconciliations.

Manage cash flow, investments, and banking relationships.

Optimize reserves and ensure compliance with financial policies.

Develop, manage, and analyze organizational budgets and forecasts.

Track variances and provide actionable financial insights.

Maintain donor databases (e.g., Donor Perfect) and oversee data integrity.

Support fundraising events, donation tracking, and reporting.

Supervise office operations and HR onboarding processes.

Maintain employee records and administer benefits.

Update organizational policies and procedures annually.

Desired Qualifications :

5+ years of accounting experience.

BS / BA in accounting, finance, or related field.

Proficient in QuickBooks (Desktop), Microsoft Office Suite, and financial management tools.

Prior nonprofit experience strongly preferred.
