Job description

Job Title : Customer Accounts Specialist - Medical Billing

Location : 100% Onsite in Livermore, CA

Schedule : Monday - Friday, 7 : 30 AM - 4 : 00 PM PST

Pay Rate : $25 / hour

Start Date : ASAP (pending successful completion of screenings)

Overview

We are seeking a Customer Accounts Specialist to join our client's Revenue Cycle Management team in Livermore, California. This individual will manage inbound patient billing inquiries, resolve outstanding balances, and ensure a positive customer experience while maintaining compliance with company standards and HIPAA regulations.

The ideal candidate has a strong understanding of medical billing, insurance processes, and EOB interpretation, along with exceptional communication and problem-solving skills. This is a fully onsite position-remote or hybrid work is not available.

Key Responsibilities

  • Handle up to 50 inbound patient calls daily, providing courteous, professional assistance with billing and account inquiries.
  • Review and reconcile patient accounts, ensuring accuracy of statements and timely resolution of unpaid balances.
  • Interpret Explanations of Benefits (EOBs) and Remittance Advices (RAs) to explain payment details and claim outcomes.
  • Communicate with patients, insurance companies, and internal teams to resolve billing discrepancies.
  • Process credit card payments, refunds, and hardship applications in accordance with company policies.
  • Maintain detailed and accurate documentation of all collection activities.
  • Submit adjustment requests and assist with month-end close processes.
  • Support compliance with HIPAA, company SOPs, and other applicable regulations.
  • Perform additional related duties as assigned by management.

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • 2+ years of experience in medical billing, patient accounts, or revenue cycle environments.
  • Strong working knowledge of insurance billing, Medicare / Medicaid, and commercial payer processes.
  • Proficiency in interpreting EOBs and explaining billing methodologies to patients.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and a professional phone demeanor.
  • Strong attention to detail, time management, and ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Preferred Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education or medical billing certification.
  • Prior experience within a healthcare provider, medical group, or billing office.
  • Familiarity with CRM tools or patient account systems.
  • Working knowledge of HIP nd Affordable Care Act compliance.
