This position plays a critical role in the City of Baltimores review process for major public and private development projects. It is housed within the Department of Plannings Land Use and Urban Design (LUUD) Division. LUUD coordinates the review of major development projects citywide and manages the Citys design review process, including administration of the Design Manual and the Urban Design and Architectural Review Panel (UDAAP), and subdivision and site plan review. LUUD also coordinates Planning Commission review of related City Council legislation.
This role requires familiarity with a wide range of development types, from residential and commercial projects to master plans, planned unit developments, institutional (ed s and meds), and waterfront development. A strong background in architecture and urban design is highly desirable, as is direct experience with diverse project types.
The position offers a unique opportunity to gain insight and hands-on experience in the development and redevelopment of a major American city through daily involvement in the development review process. Strong skills in architecture, planning, and communication are essential.
Key Responsibilities
Coordinate and manage the review of major public and private development projects.
Administer the Citys design review process, including oversight of the Design Manual and support for UDAAP.
Conduct subdivision and site plan reviews.
Prepare and present materials for the Planning Commission and coordinate related City Council legislation.
Review and provide feedback on a wide range of development projects, including residential, commercial, institutional, and waterfront projects.
Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure high-quality urban design outcomes.
Communicate effectively with developers, architects, community members, and city leadership.
Qualifications
