The Assistant Vice President Operations will be based at Wellstar Columbia County Hospital in Grovetown, Georgia and is responsible for planning, directing, and coordinating initiatives around operational efficiencies at their assigned Wellstar facility. This position will report directly to the Chief Operating Officer.

As the operational leader, this individual will partner with others to ensure a high quality, safe continuum of care for WellStar Patients. In addition, they will partner with applicable Service Line leaders to grow current strategies and / or plan, implement, and evaluate new ones. The AVP is expected to create and maintain strong relationships with team members, physicians, peers across system and community in and surrounding the service market.

The Assistant Vice President Operations must have a strong background in business unit oversight in a health care environment. This individual must be process improvement focused, including lean methodologies. This leader will collaborate with clinical and non-clinical support services to provide high quality, patient focused care.

This individual provides leadership and direction in the development and execution of strategies to manage operations that are consistent with the hospital's culture, strategic business objectives, and continuous quality improvement. Employs a global perspective of emerging trends, issues, and technology in health care and possesses understanding of WellStar's mission and vision.

Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions :

Provides leadership assistance and oversight to Operations departments to assure that the goals of the System are achieved. Develops leadership teams appropriate for department needs. Develops and implements strategic plans and budgets; monitors performance to expectations. Maintains expert knowledge of multiple regulatory and reimbursement structures. Assures development of 90 day plans that support the achievement of system goals. Possess strong physician relation building skills.

Participates as active part of WellStar Senior Leadership to assist in identifying and achieving corporate strategic goals and objectives. Maintains detailed knowledge of System strategies and objectives; identifies opportunities for improvement and ensures Division and Hospital initiatives are consistent with and contributing to System objectives. Maintains knowledge of healthcare environment both locally and nationally to identify opportunities and threats; communicates internally as appropriate and incorporates into planning process. Actively participates with the Operations Group, and other teams that support System goal achievement. Provides communication and feedback to Executive Leadership, Administrators and direct reports.

Actively participates in corporate initiatives, committees and group discussions to contribute to sound policies and decisions. Actively attends and participates in committees as assigned. Identifies how structure or function could be improved and communicates appropriately. Promotes team development through active leadership presence in group and committee structures. Have an ability to organize and present data in a concise and easily understood manner, often to professionals, physicians and board members.

Participates in community and industry leadership roles to facilitate a greater presence of WellStar Health System in external settings and to obtain necessary feedback for continued development of the system. The hospital will continuously look for opportunities to expand services for the community and to diversify revenue streams.

Performs other duties as assigned Complies with all Wellstar Health System policies, standards of work, and code of conduct.

Required Minimum Education :

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Master's degree preferred.

Required Minimum Experience :

  • Minimum 10 years in healthcare is required.
  • Minimum 8 years of operational management is required.
  • Budgeting, financial management, clinical service management and materials management is required.
  • Healthcare regulatory and accreditation compliance is preferred.
  • Required Minimum Skills :

  • Highly developed leadership and interpersonal skills.
  • Performance management skills, financial acumen, strategic planning, communication skills, knowledge of industry standards, leadership and interpersonal skills.
  • Analytical skills to solve technical problems as well as abstract reasoning to define course of actions when information may be vague or unclear.
