Job description

POSITION SUMMARY

The Mgr – Construction will be responsible for organization, implementation, scheduling and overall completion and acceptance of construction projects.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Oversee and direct construction project from conception to completion, ensuring timely completion and customer satisfaction.
  • Manage the planning, materials, building, and budget of a construction projects; and negotiates and provides cost estimates.
  • Oversee all onsite and offsite construction to monitor compliance with building codes, safety regulations and plans.
  • Coordinate and direct construction workers and subcontractors.
  • Meet contractual conditions of performance.
  • Select and oversee the work of specialized contractors and employees, and ensures work is of high quality and on track.
  • Report on status and progress of project and budget matters to management and / or clients.
  • Plan ahead to prevent problems, and resolve any emerging issues, delays, emergencies, etc.
  • Negotiate terms of agreements, draft contracts and obtain permits and licenses.
  • Analyze, manage and mitigate risks both for the company as well as workers on site.
  • Select appropriate construction methods and strategies; and schedules and coordinates construction processes so that projects meet design specifications.
  • Mentor, coach, train and develop team.

QUALIFICATIONS / REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or related field.
  • Advanced degree (MBA, Master’s) preferred.
  • 8+ years progressive construction experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 5+ years in a leadership role.
  • Routine travel either locally, nationally, and / or internationally may be required.
  • High degree of proficiency in MS Office Suite, Outlook & Internet applications.
  • Strong analytical, prioritizing, interpersonal, problem-solving, presentation, budgeting, project management (from conception to completion), & planning skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills (including analysis, interpretation, & reasoning).
  • Solid understanding and application of mathematical concepts.
  • Ability to develop and maintain collaborative relationships with peers and colleagues across the organization, as well as, internal and external clients.
  • Ability to work well autonomously and within a team in a fast-paced and deadline-oriented environment.
  • Ability to work with and influence peers and management.
  • Self-motivated with critical attention to detail, deadlines and reporting.
  • PHYSICAL ASPECTS / WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Regularly required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk, hear and see.
  • Regularly / Occasionally lift and / or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Regularly / Occasionally exposed to wet and / or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, extreme cold & heat, risk of electrical shock, and toxic or caustic chemicals.
