Duties Description The Professional Engineer 1 will work in the Capital Delivery section or in the Design Services section of the regional Design unit.
If assigned to the Capital Delivery section, the incumbent of this position will be the Consultant Job Manager and / or the Design Squad Leader for an in-house design squad for highway and bridge rehabilitation and reconstruction projects. Duties may include, but are not limited to :
If assigned to the Design Services section, the incumbent of this position will be responsible for roles which may include Regional Estimating Engineer, Regional Value Engineering Coordinator, and supervising and / or assisting the following roles : Regional Special Specification Coordinator, ProjectWise Data Manager, Plan
Review, and / or Utility Engineering. The role requires close familiarity with project development, as well as strong supervisory and communication skills. Duties may include :

Qualifying experience : One year of full-time engineering experience in the design and construction of parks, roads, bridges, recreational facilities, water and / or wastewater treatment facilities.
Candidates may also be qualified for permanent competitive appointment if reachable from the appropriate Civil Service eligible list or eligible for reassignment or transfer in accordance with Civil Service Law.

Additional Comments Responsibilities may include serving a role within the Incident Command System to support the department's response to regional and statewide emergency situations.
At a future date, it is expected employees hired under NY HELPS will have their non-competitive employment status converted to competitive status, without having to compete in an examination. Employees will then be afforded with all of the same rights and privileges of competitive class employees of New York State. While serving permanently in an NY HELPS title, employees may take part in any promotion examination for which they are qualified.

The starting salary for this position is $116,534. This amount is comprised of an increased hiring rate of $103,034 with an additional geographic pay differential up to $13,500, specific to this title and location.
The maximum compensation for this position is $128,752. This amount is comprised of the standard job rate of $115,252 with an additional geographic pay differential of $13,500, specific to this title and location.
In addition, a Mid-Hudson Adjustment of $2,000 or a Downstate Adjustment of $4,000 may also apply depending on the location of the position.
