Job Summary
This position inspects buildings to ensure compliance with applicable national, state and county building, safety and energy codes. Reports to the Chief Plumbing Inspector.
Essential Functions
Reads building plans and specifications to compare with actual construction.
Performs thorough plumbing inspections to ensure compliance with Florida Building Codes, safety and energy codes, Broward County Rules and other requirements.
Prepares inspection reports, including correction recommendations.
Receives and responds to inquiries from homeowners / property owners, contractors, architects, engineers, etc., regarding codes and compliance procedures.
Performs general administrative / office work as required, including but not limited to attending meetings, preparing reports and correspondence, copying, and filing documents, answering the telephone, etc.
Interacts and communicates with the immediate supervisor, co-workers, other City department personnel, property / homeowners, developers, contractors, architects, engineers, trade workers, County personnel, general public, etc.
Provides excellent customer service by clearly and politely explaining code requirements to applicants and the general public.
Operates a vehicle and a variety of equipment, including a computer, typewriter, calculator, copier, telephone, small hand tools, etc.
Performs additional related duties as assigned and / or required.
Minimum Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED equivalent
Valid state driver's license
Special Requirements :
Per Broward County Administrative Code 104.13.3 for a person to be eligible for appointment as Plumbing Inspector, such person shall be certified by BORA and meet at least one of the following :

Physical Demands : Requires moderate physical effort including lifting up to 50 pounds. May require frequent crouching, kneeling, bending, and stooping. Frequent periods of standing or walking may be required.
