Position Overview

The Lead Plant Operator serves as a skilled leader responsible for managing the daily operations at the designated aggregate location. This role includes overseeing production and loadout of materials at the aggregate plant. While primarily focused on supervisory duties, occasional participation in general labor or equipment operation may be required. The position consistently upholds CRH's Safety First standards and complies with all relevant company policies and procedures.

Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)

  • Manages, and communicates with the Plant Manager or Area Manager, issues affecting personnel, safety, maintenance, production efficiency, product quality, current and upcoming projects.
  • Follow all OSHA / MSHA regulations for safe working procedures. Follow all company policies including safety, quality, and CRH Life Saving standards.
  • Conduct daily safety checks, area, and facility inspections. Complete and maintain required reports and records.
  • Operate equipment and perform tasks according to job and environmental standards.
  • Accurately document time, material use, and production.
  • Optimize output through skilled operation and effective supervision.
  • Communicate maintenance needs and complete work orders promptly. Perform routine maintenance, including cleaning, repairs, and welding. Communicate additional maintenance requirements to plant manager.
  • Provide management updates and alert them to urgent issues.
  • Support team members, supervisors, and new employee training.
  • Lead employee meetings, including daily T-5 meetings, address employees safety concerns and other HR and safety
  • Efficiently operate heavy machinery and maximize plant production. Fill in where required.
  • Identify hazards, follow instructions, and accurately complete paperwork.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education / Experience

  • Minimum or high school diploma or general education degree (GED), preferred not required
  • One to three years' related experience required. Three to five years aggregate-related experience is preferred or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Must obtain and maintain DOT certifications required to sample Aggregates as required by state regulations.
  • Work Requirements

  • Must be 18 years in age or older.
  • Must pass pre-employment physical, drug screen and criminal background check.
  • Must have and maintain a valid driver's license.
  • Strict adherence to safety requirements and procedures as outlined in the Employee Handbook.
  • Willingness to work independently within a team environment and assist the team with other duties as required.
  • Regular and consistent attendance is required and must be willing to work nights, weekends and holidays when necessary.
  • Knowledge / Skill Requirements

  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed, but uninvolved written or oral instructions
  • Willingness and ability to work in and adapt to changes in circumstances, tasks, customer needs and other conditions that may affect their daily responsibilities.
  • Proven ability to develop relationships and to work with teams as both a leader and a participant.
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills; building rapport, listening, presenting, giving, and receiving feedback.
  • Must be able to perform simple mathematic calculations.
  • Must be proficient in Outlook, Word and Excel and other required computer programs.
  • Physical Requirements

  • Able to utilize a computer for word processing, email communication, and preparation of documents and presentations.
  • Able to regularly lift and / or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and / or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and / or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to frequently talk, hear, walk, and sit as well as occasionally required to stand, reach use hands and fingers to manipulate objects or controls, climb or balance, stoop, kneel and crouch.
  • Vision abilities (with correction) include close, distance, peripheral, depth, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Able to climb ladders and to work at heights as well as work in tight quarters.
  • Work Environment

    While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles and outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud. A variety of noise levels, adverse weather conditions, and complex job sites are to be expected daily. Proper clothing, PPE (personal protective equipment), and safety precautions should be taken to ensure your safety, and the safety of others in all conditions.
