Job description

Room Attendant

The Room Attendant is responsible for:

  • Cleaning guest units and public areas as assigned in a comprehensive and systematic manner, ensuring the highest level of cleanliness and product presentation to the hotel owner and or guest.
  • Producing a clean guest unit in a timely manner, consistent with the hotel franchise productivity, cleanliness, and maintenance standards as set forth for each room type.

The Room Attendant's primary responsibilities will include:

  • Cleaning bathtub, toilet, sink, walls, mirrors, tiles, counters, windows, and floor surfaces using cloths, mops, sponges, brushes, and/or cleaning agents by extending arms over head, bending, and stooping.
  • Stripping and making beds, changing bed linens which may require lifting bedspreads weighing a maximum of 40 lbs.
  • Dusting all furniture, pictures, drawers, window ledges, and shelves thoroughly.
  • Checking under bed to remove trash or other debris.
  • Maintaining cleanliness of public space, i.e.: lobby, breakfast area, public restrooms, offices, pool area, fitness center, corridors, elevators, and stairways as assigned.
  • Pushing and pulling vacuum throughout entire room and emptying trash.
  • Replenishing amenities, linens, and supplies in guest room.
  • Signing for room keys, retrieving, pushing to assigned rooms, and restocking cart weighing up to 150 pounds.
  • Visually inspecting room for cleanliness and appearance and signifying completion for room.
  • Reporting all repairs or maintenance problems to supervisor.
  • Greeting guests in hallways or in passing, asking if they are enjoying their stay.
  • Responding in a timely manner to guest requests for items such as an iron, safety instructions, assistance, direction, and/or other information as requested.
  • Reporting all suspicious persons, activities, or hazardous and unsafe conditions to the immediate supervisor or a management employee.
  • Turning in all items found in employee's working area to the property Lost and Found department.
  • Taking trash to dumpster as required.

Required Skills and Ability

  • Ability to push and/or pull equipment weighing up to 150 lbs.
  • Ability to lift and carry objects weighing an average of 25-50 pounds.
  • Ability to scrub and scour surfaces, extending arms over head to perform cleaning tasks, and work in confined spaces.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with other employees, as well as guests.
  • Ability to follow instructions, directions, and meet deadlines, including the thorough cleaning of a minimum of 8 rooms or as specified by management within 30 minutes per room.
  • Basic ability to comprehend English language sufficient to understand information such as labels and instructions, and basic guest requests.

Required Education and Experience

  • Education High school diploma preferred.
  • Experience No previous experience needed.
