Job Summary
The Auto Body Shop Manager oversees the daily operations of an auto body repair facility, ensuring high-quality repairs, efficient workflow, strong customer satisfaction, and profitability. This role combines leadership, technical knowledge, customer service, and business management.
Key Responsibilities
Operations & Production
- Manage day-to-day shop operations, including scheduling, workflow, and repair timelines
- Ensure repairs meet quality, safety, and manufacturer standards
- Monitor productivity and efficiency of technicians and painters
- Coordinate with parts suppliers to ensure timely and accurate deliveries
Staff Management
- Supervise, and evaluate technicians
- Assign work based on skill level and workload
- Foster a positive, safe, and professional work environment
- Enforce shop policies, procedures, and safety standards
- Ensure clear communication regarding repair status, timelines, and costs
- Maintain high customer satisfaction and manage reviews or feedback
- Oversee or assist with repair estimates and supplements
- Work with insurance adjusters to ensure accurate claims and approvals
- Ensure proper documentation and compliance with insurance requirements
- Monitor shop performance, KPIs, and profitability
- Control labor, materials, and overhead costs
- Meet revenue and performance targets
- Assist with budgeting, reporting, and inventory management
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe shop environment
- Enforce OSHA and environmental standards
- Proven experience in auto body repair or collision center management
- Strong understanding of auto body repair processes and estimating systems
- Leadership and team management skills
- Excellent communication and customer service abilities
- Ability to multitask and problem-solve in a fast-paced environment
Preferred
- Experience with estimating software (CCC, Mitchell, Audatex, etc.)
- Valid driver’s license
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods
- Occasional lifting of up to 50 lbs
- Work in a shop environment with noise, fumes, and equipment
