Job Title: ISE94I – Sr. Data Warehouse Engineer

Brief Description:

The Senior Data Warehouse Engineer will be a part of our Data Warehousing team, who is responsible for providing the direction, planning, and implementation for future development of data warehousing technologies as well as identifying and evaluating newer technologies to help UBC implement those tools at the cutting edge of the industry.

Specific job duties:

• Work closely with the technical and business teams to understand their requirements, perform detailed analysis, design the appropriate solutions and implement them within the agreed upon timelines.
• Build enterprise data warehouse solutions as per existing policies and procedures and support the data and cloud transformation initiatives.
• Contribute the design, development and support of data architecture, database design and integration, transformations, and load processes.
• Have discussions with internal and external stakeholders, understand the business processes, create design and mapping documents and guide the junior resources in the team.
• Proven experience with data warehousing and data modeling using Microsoft Azure data management technologies, creating and maintaining SQL data structures and store procedures.
• Should be able to work with and/or transform structured, semi structured and unstructured data.
• Develop appropriate solutions to address current and future data warehousing requirements, identify the opportunities for process improvement, document and implement them as necessary.
• Possess working knowledge of Cloud based data warehousing tools, Relational Database Management Systems and Data integration tools.
• Perform analysis of external data sources and perform source-to-target mapping of an external source to a common data model in enterprise data warehouse.
• Should have strong SQL development skills and should be able to setup and troubleshoot SQL Agent Jobs to run SSIS packages.
• Create and maintain Data integration pipelines using Azure Data Factory to move data between environments/systems.
• Should be able to work independently as well as a team player as needed.

Desired Skills and Qualifications:

• 7 – 10 years of technology experience with 5+ years of data warehouse experience.
• 3+ years of experience developing with Microsoft development stack. Snowflake experience a plus.
• Minimum Bachelor in Computer Science or related degree, Master’s degree in Computer Science, MBA, Analytics a plus.
• Pharma Experience a Plus.
• Experience with Microsoft Azure ecosystem and proficient in using Azure Data warehouse, Azure SQL Database, Azure DevOps and Azure Data Factory (ADF) products.
• Experience in creating data flows and stored procedures using Microsoft Visual Studio. Nice to have experience with SQL Server Integration Server (SSIS) .
• Proven ability in written and verbal communication, managing work between multiple projects with better planning and organization skills.
• Write functional and design specifications for data warehousing systems and analyze and integrate third party software tools and libraries, as necessary.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment within the specified deadlines.
• Nice to have Microsoft Azure certification.
• Nice to have proficiency with one of Python, R or SAS.
