POSITION SUMMARY :
The Registered Nurse (RN) will be responsible for providing direct, high-quality nursing care to patients with a variety of medical and / or behavioral health conditions. The RN will work as part of a multidisciplinary team, ensuring that care is delivered in a safe, efficient, and compassionate manner. The RN will provide holistic, patient-centered care in accordance with the Texas Board of Nursing (BON) Nurse Practice Act, the standards of practice, regulatory standards, and facility policies, ensuring that the unique needs of this patient population are met in a safe and therapeutic environment. This role requires critical thinking, clinical judgment, patient advocacy, and adherence to best practices and regulatory standards.
JOB-SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES :

o Collaborates effectively with colleagues and other departments to ensure seamless service delivery.
o Upholds ethical standards, confidentiality, and professionalism in all patient interactions and nursing practices.
o Provides nursing care to adult and / or pediatric patients with a variety of medical and behavioral health diagnoses, utilizing evidence-based practices, critical thinking, and clinical judgment.
o Administers medications, treatments, and interventions as prescribed by physicians, ensuring adherence to safety protocols and nursing standards.
o Monitors and assesses patient progress, identifying signs of acute illness, exacerbations of chronic conditions, or behavioral health crises.
o Collaborates with a multidisciplinary team (e.g., physicians, social workers, behavioral health specialists, physical therapists) to develop and implement individualized care plans.
o Educates patients and families on disease management, medications, and coping strategies, particularly with complex medical and behavioral conditions.
o Provides crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques in situations involving patients with behavioral health challenges.
o Communicates effectively with patients' families, caregivers, and healthcare teams, providing updates, addressing concerns, and offering support.
o Coordinates care with physicians and specialists, ensuring effective management of complex cases involving both medical and behavioral health components.
o Collaborates with nursing and other departments to ensure the seamless and effective delivery of care.
o Implements and adhere to established safety protocols, especially for patients with developmental or behavioral health concerns.
o Maintains up-to-date knowledge and skills in acute care nursing, including emergency procedures, safe handling of medications, and management of specialized equipment.
o Ensures compliance with infection control standards, documentation requirements, and nursing practices to maintain high-quality care.
o Promotes patient and family engagement in the care process, ensuring informed decision-making and comfort.
o Documents patient care accurately and in a timely manner in accordance with hospital policies, nursing standards, and Texas BON guidelines.
o Advocates for patients and their families to ensure comprehensive, individualized care that meets both physical and emotional needs.
o Provides compassionate education to patients and families on disease management, medications, and coping strategies, particularly with patients having complex medical and behavioral needs.
o Ensures patient and family engagement in care decisions, promoting informed choices and patient comfort throughout treatment.
o Communicates proactively with patients' families and caregivers, providing regular updates and addressing concerns to ensure a positive care experience.
o Demonstrates sensitivity and respect for diverse patient populations, ensuring inclusive and individualized care.
o Ensures all activities adhere to healthcare regulations and organizational policies.
o Participates in quality improvement initiatives to enhance service delivery.
o Promotes a culture of patient safety which results in the identification and reduction of unsafe practices.
o Adheres to the Texas Nurse Practice Act and the standards set by the Texas Board of Nursing, delivering safe, competent, and ethical care.
o Complies with all legal and regulatory requirements, including documentation, patient rights, and confidentiality standards.
o Follows hospital policies regarding safety, infection control, and patient care, ensuring the delivery of high-quality services.
o Acts as a role model for ethical nursing practice, upholding the nursing code of conduct in all interactions and fostering a culture of accountability and professionalism.
o Participates in quality improvement initiatives, identifying areas for care enhancement and helping implement best practices.
o Completes annual education requirements.
o Maintains competency, as evidenced by completion of competency validation requirements.
o Maintains competency and knowledge of current standards of practice, trends, and developments.
o Participates in relevant workshops, seminars, and continuing education courses to stay current with industry trends, healthcare regulations, and best practices.
o Engages in ongoing professional development by pursuing continuing education as required by the Texas BON and hospital policies.
o Maintains current licensure and certifications as required.
o Participates in staff education and training to stay current with the latest nursing practices, treatment protocols, healthcare technologies, behavioral health interventions, and best practices.
o Actively engages in self-assessment and peer review to identify areas for improvement and professional growth.
o Promotes stewardship of hospital resources while ensuring quality patient care.
o Manages and conserves healthcare resources by using medical supplies, medications, and equipment efficiently, minimizing waste while maintaining the quality of care.
o Assists with accurate patient billing by ensuring proper documentation of services provided, including treatments, medications, and interventions.
o Supports the cost-effective delivery of care by collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to streamline care plans and minimize unnecessary procedures or hospital readmissions.
o Abides by hospital policies on resource allocation and report concerns regarding overuse or misuse of supplies or services.
