Customs And Trade Specialist
The Customs And Trade Specialist applies general knowledge of global trade to facilitate trade and ensures compliance with all import and export regimes and various other agency regulations globally, through tactical engagement with internal customers and external agencies and associations. Develops, implements and / or manages sub-sets of programs within broader programs such as Duty Optimization, Process Improvement Initiatives, and Global 'Trusted Trader' programs.
Responsibilities :
25% Executes core operations including training and process improvement for commercial document production, trade agreement qualification, order management.
20% Monitors and evaluates trade facilitation programs and identifies opportunities to leverage trade to support global business objectives.
10% Guides colleagues on trade facilitation and cost saving opportunities.
5% Researches solutions and facilitates implementation of corrective action plans according to process improvement principles.
5% Participates in compliance audits.
5% Creates or reviews SOPs and process documentation.
5% Implements or manages projects and regional programs.
10% Researches and benchmarks best practices and opportunities for global process improvement.
1.5% Performs other duties as assigned.
Additional Requirements :
Education : Bachelor's degree, applicable certification or equivalent experience.
Related Experience : Typically requires 2-4 years of professional experience and strong competency with the various tools, systems, or procedures required to accomplish the job.
Additional Education or Specific Certification : Bachelor's or Advanced Degree preferred. Professional certification desired but not mandatory (US Customs Broker License, Lean, Six Sigma).
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities (i.e. software applications, programming languages, etc.) : Tactical capabilities and expertise in : Duty savings & tariff mitigation, Tariff classification, Trusted Trader Programs, Import, customs and related regulatory compliance, Country of Origin determination, Free Trade Agreements / Trade Preference Programs, Compliance reviews, manuals, procedures and audits, Admissibility, Customs valuation, Intellectual property, Foreign Trade Zones / Bonded warehouses, Engagement with Customs officials, Trade Legislation and policy, World Trade Organization and World Customs Organization rules & interpretations.
Travel : Occasional - 10%.
