RFK Academy at RFK Community Alliance is a state-approved special education day school that serves students aged 10–22 with multiple disabilities. The Science Teacher contributes to the application of functional and academic education as a key educational team member within a therapeutic milieu. The Science Teacher will develop and oversee progress on content and skill-based goals and evaluate progress collaboratively with the team according to treatment planning and students' Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).

Here's where you come in

The Science Teacher creates a differentiated curriculum, instructs content, and supports students' ability to access the academic program. You will implement grade-level curricula to meet academic standards based on the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks and Common Core. You will recognize the unique qualities of each student and tailor lessons and / or projects accordingly.

Key responsibilities

• Operate a classroom that meets students' needs for safety, educational growth, and social / emotional development.
• Evaluate students' educational needs in Science and develop plans and programs to meet those needs.
• Produce educational assessments (formal and informal) in Science for each student.
• Assist in the development of IEP goals with the Education Coordinator.
• Provide classroom instruction to help students meet Science goals and curriculum goals per RFK Community Alliance and Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks.
• Participate in TEAM and Treatment Team Meetings involving classroom students.
• Follow and actively participate in the Behavior Management System.
• Supervise and develop a collaborative team atmosphere with colleagues and teaching assistants.
• Attend and participate in staff meetings and professional development days.
• Contribute to teacher team meetings and implement team goals.
• Model positive behavior and collaborate with RFK staff and external partners.
• Assume other responsibilities necessary to ensure program safety and continuity.

Who You Are

You are someone who leads with compassion and values collaboration, professionalism, and teamwork. The best-qualified candidate will have a Bachelor's degree; a Master's degree and MA certification in Science (5–12) or Moderate Disabilities (5–12) is preferred.
