Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med / Surg acute care night shift position in Illinois, requiring an active IL RN license and BLS certification.
Responsibilities
Work in an acute care Med / Surg unit with 29 beds and a typical census of 22–26 patientsPatient population includes a broad range of adult medical diagnoses, such as GI bleeds, sepsis, CHF, cellulitis, COVID, comfort measures, osteomyelitis, elderly falls, DVT, and pulmonary embolismNurse-to-patient ratios are 4–5 : 1 on days and 5–6 : 1 on nightsRNs required to titrate heparin drips12-hour night shifts with shift report at 7p and every other weekend required (weekend for nights is Friday / Saturday)Care supported by 24-hour charge RN, crisis RN, patient care techs (PCTs), and unit clerk; PCT ratio is 1 : 10Patients who need telemetry are monitored remotely by the telemetry department; Phillips equipment is usedNo ICU or chemo patients, but floating to other Med / Surg-like units may be requiredEPIC EMR is used in the unitHoliday shifts are rotatedRNs receive two shifts of unit-specific orientationScrubs of any color are permitted, but no pediatric patterns allowed and staff must provide their ownInpatient respiratory support may include up to 6L nasal cannula and stable BiPAP / CPAP at nightSupport is available from a 24 / 7 administrative supervisor and crisis RNExpected to attempt IV starts and collaborate with unit resources if necessaryCOVID-19 vaccine is not required for this positionLocal candidates within 50 miles are accepted at a local rateRequirements
Active IL RN license required at the time of considerationCurrent BLS certification requiredMinimum of 2 years of RN experience in an acute care Med / Surg settingExperience titrating heparin drips requiredExperience with EPIC EMR is preferredAbility to work 12-hour night shifts and every other weekendMust be able to start IVs; use phlebotomy team for blood draws if necessaryBenefits
