Overview

THIS POSITION WILL BE FILLED AS A PROBATIONAL APPOINTMENT or PROMOTION OF A PERMANENT CLASSIFIED EMPLOYEE OF LOUISIANA STATE GOVERNMENT (State Employee).

How this position may be filled

The selected employee may be required to serve a trial detail prior to being permanently promoted.

Current permanent status classified State employees may be required to accept a probational appointment, if selected.

This position may be filled by temporary job appointment. If filled as a temporary job appointment, and a permanent position becomes available, the employee may be converted to a probational appointment.

Special Entrance Rate

Premium Pay

There is "Premium Pay" for this position : a rate between $2.00 and $5.00 an hour for each hour worked, based on years of service with DOC, in addition to regular pay.

Minimum Qualifications

Function of Work and Other Details

Function of Work : To provide general social services work through direct services and / or general counseling.

Level of Work : Entry.

Supervision Received : Close from a Social Service Counselor 5, social worker, or other higher-level social services personnel.

Supervision Exercised : None.

Location of Work : Department of Health and Hospitals; LSU-Health Sciences Centers, Acute Care Hospitals, Medical Schools; Veterans Affairs; Department of Corrections; Department of Social Services.

Job Distinctions : Differs from the Professional Counselor by the absence of a master\'s degree and licensure as a Licensed Professional Counselor. Differs from Social Service Counselor 2 by supervision received.

General Duties : Maintains and prepares social histories, participates in treatment teams, manages caseloads, coordinates admissions / discharges, serves as liaison between clients and agencies, assists in procuring needs, determines eligibility, and makes recommendations to the criminal justice system or employers as appropriate.
