Position Overview
Title : Next-Gen Energy Technician Level 3
Department : Field Operations
Reports To : District / Regional Service Manager

The Energy Service Technician Level 3 represents a significant leap in technical expertise and leadership within the energy service industry. At this level, technicians take full ownership of complex troubleshooting, system optimizations, and high-level maintenance procedures.
Level 3 Technicians are trusted field leaders, executing independent service projects, collaborating directly with engineering teams, and mentoring lower-level technicians. This role lays the foundation for progression into senior and specialist positions at Servist Energy.
Key Responsibilities
System Service & Technical Operations
- Perform complex diagnostics, root-cause analysis, and corrective repairs on solar PV, battery storage (BESS), and EV charging systems.
- Diagnose advanced inverter, BMS (Battery Management System), PCS (Power Conversion System), and EV charger faults and develop resolution plans.
- Conduct IV curve tracing, power quality analysis, insulation resistance testing, and arc fault detection.
- Configure and troubleshoot SCADA, Modbus, RS-485, TCP / IP communication networks for system monitoring.
- Implement system optimization strategies, including inverter efficiency improvements and BESS performance adjustments.
- Perform breaker coordination, power factor correction, and panel modifications following NEC compliance.
- Take a leadership role on service calls and field diagnostics, ensuring efficiency and quality of repairs.
- Manage firmware updates, software diagnostics, and remote monitoring system troubleshooting.
Advanced Electrical Testing & Safety Compliance
Implement NFPA 70E-compliant electrical safety practices, including arc flash hazard assessments and Lockout / Tagout (LOTO) protocols.Utilize power analyzers, IR thermal cameras, and advanced electrical diagnostic tools.Ensure compliance with OSHA 30, NEC (National Electrical Code), and manufacturer best practices.Lead field safety audits and technician safety training sessions.Mentorship & Leadership
Lead and mentor Level 1 & Level 2 Technicians, reinforcing proper safety, troubleshooting, and repair techniques.Train junior technicians in schematic interpretation, system wiring, and performance testing.Oversee work planning, job site coordination, and technician task assignments.Provide direct field feedback to supervisors, site managers, and engineering teams.Documentation & Client Communication
Generate detailed service reports, including system logs, fault analysis, and performance benchmarks.Maintain up-to-date documentation of firmware updates, software configurations, and system maintenance records.Communicate findings and system recommendations to clients, site managers, and engineering teams.Required Certifications & Training
High School Diploma / GED (or equivalent technical education)OSHA 30-Hour Safety Training (must be completed within 30 days)NFPA 70E Advanced Electrical Safety CertificationCompletion of Level 2 Technician training requirementsEnrollment in the next available electrical apprenticeship programFirst Aid & CPR CertificationJourneyman Electrician License (or in-progress)Preferred Qualifications (Nice to Have, but Not Required)
NABCEP PV Installation Professional (PVIP) CertificationExperience with SCADA networking, inverter data logging, and system analyticsForklift and aerial lift certificationExperience working with Schweitzer Labs SEL relay protection systemsHands-on experience commissioning PV, BESS, and EV infrastructureBonus Qualifications (Highly Valued, but Not Required)
NABCEP PV Commissioning & Maintenance Specialist (PVCMS) CertificationCertified Energy Storage Installation Professional (ESIP)EVITP (Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Training Program) CertificationAdvanced understanding of power electronics and grid-tied energy storageTraining in AI-based predictive maintenance and remote diagnosticsPolicy for Certification Exceptions
Highly experienced technicians with extensive field knowledge and leadership capabilities may qualify for Level 5 roles even if they do not have every listed certification.Servist Energy will evaluate candidates on a case-by-case basis to ensure their field expertise aligns with company standards.Technicians without specific certifications may be required to enroll in an approved fast-track certification pathway as a condition of hire or promotion.Military veterans, master-level field engineers, and high-level O&M specialists with proven expertise may be eligible for certification waivers if they demonstrate equivalent knowledge through documented work history and technical assessments.Why Join Servist Energy?
