Utility Crew Member
Under the direct supervision of the Utility Foreman, the Utility Crew Member is responsible for performing skilled and semi-skilled work in the construction, maintenance, and repair of the City of Middleton's water and sewer infrastructure systems. This position ensures these fundamental systems remain operational and serve the citizens and businesses as intended and expected. The Utility Crew Member will also respond to emergencies during times of system issues and failures.
Job Functions

- Installs and maintains water service components, including service lines, meters, valves, tees, and fire hydrants by tapping main lines, laying new pipes, and replacing or repairing existing sections as needed.
- Performs light mechanical work on equipment and small engines.
- Repairs and tests water meters.
- Completes quarterly water reads to determine consumption.
- Conducts water pump and treatment facilities tasks including operating equipment and machinery, reading meters, and adjusting chemical dosages, valves, and settings.
- Keeps accurate daily records and data sheets.
- Assists in the maintenance and repair work at the sewage lift stations and on sewer lines with water jetting equipment.
- Completes special projects and other job duties as assigned or required.
Qualifications and Competencies
Minimum Education and Experience
High School Diploma or equivalent is required.A minimum of one (1) year of experience in utilities maintenance, public works maintenance, construction and excavation, equipment operation, or a closely related field is required.Possess or obtain within one (1) year of hire the following licensure and certifications :State of Wisconsin Waterworks Operator CertificateState of Wisconsin Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with Tanker EndorsementOther Qualifications
Two (2) years of experience in water and sewer maintenance or construction work.The City of Middleton recognizes that candidates may bring a variety of backgrounds and experiences. A regular, Monday Thursday, 10-hours per day (40-hours per week) schedule is required for this position. Participation in a 24 / 7 on-call rotation and response to after-hours emergencies is required.
Work is performed primarily outdoors in all weather conditions, with possible exposure to noise, dust, fumes, and other environmental factors.
