The greater Naples / Ft. Myers area is looking for a skilled
and motivated Veterinarian with a passion for leadership.
The Medical Director / Managing Veterinarian (MDVM)
provides medical leadership for the hospital, manages associate veterinarians,
and ensures compliance with veterinary regulations. This role is responsible
for fostering a collaborative, high-performing team environment where quality
medicine and exceptional client care are consistently delivered.
In partnership with the Hospital Manager , the MDVM
oversees financial performance, operational efficiency, and staff development,
helping to cultivate a supportive and collaborative workplace. The hospital
team is supported by South Florida-based Divisional Leadership ,
providing training, reporting, and resources to help build a best-in-class
practice. MDVMs also have the opportunity to network and learn from peers in
similar roles across nearby veterinary clinics.
Duties and Responsibilities
Advancing Medical Care
Establish
medical protocols and provide training to associate veterinarians.
Oversee
surgical and medical cases, ensuring positive outcomes, accurate
estimates, and clear client communication.
Address
client questions and concerns regarding medical and surgical procedures.
Maintain
high standards of medical care and quality assurance.
Manage
costs related to medical supplies, surgical instruments, and drug
inventories.
Leading Staff and Practice
Participate
in recruiting, interviewing, and hiring associate doctors and other staff
when appropriate.
Monitor
associate doctor performance and productivity.
Provide
mentorship, feedback, and guidance to associate veterinarians through
ongoing coaching and structured annual reviews.
Develop
and oversee hospital-specific client compliance protocols.
Participate
in technician performance evaluations and medical counseling.
Ensure
all medical staff receive appropriate training, including mentoring new
graduates.
Support
the Hospital Manager in staff training programs, continuing education
tracking, and DVM licensure compliance.
Financial Responsibilities
Drive
revenue growth and hospital contribution by guiding associate doctors on
appropriate medicine and client compliance.
Manage
medical expenses, pricing, and ensure accurate billing for services
provided.
Assist
in preparing annual planning strategy, operating budget, and capital
budget.
Monitor
and act upon key financial reports to ensure operational and financial
success.
Growing the Practice
Build
and maintain the clinic’s reputation within the community.
Support
innovative programs and embrace positive change within the hospital.
Monitor
client service, marketing, and growth initiatives.
Seek
ways to improve operational practices to enhance practice growth.
Identify
opportunities for adding doctors to the team as the practice expands.
Skills and Basic Qualifications
Doctor
of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree or equivalent from an accredited
university.
Licensure
in good standing to practice in Florida.
Commitment
to the highest standards of veterinary medicine and professional ethics.
MDVM
experience is welcome but not required; open to experienced DVMs
interested in leadership roles.
Ability
to delegate tasks effectively and achieve results with the hospital team.
Confident
and effective decision-making skills.
Strong
leadership abilities, including coaching, motivating, and developing
staff.
Excellent
time and task management skills.
Ability
to collaborate with NVA leadership to drive clinic-level outcomes.
Professional
and courteous manner with staff, clients, and peers.
Compensation and Benefits
Although pay may vary by clinic and position, Managing
Veterinarians can generally expect :
Production-based
model with salary draw (hospital-specific).
