Garden Retail Sales Manager
Purpose : To manage and grow our Garden Retail Sales team members. Some of the daily tasks will be to train and provide feedback and to ensure healthy plants and happy customers. You will be working closely with Garden Center Production Manager, Owner, and Human Resources to ensure appropriate staffing level. This position will focus on Sales versus Production.
Responsibilities :
- Provide leadership and direction to the Garden Retail Sales team in conjunction with the Garden Center Production Manager, including training, follow-up and feedback.
- Work closely with the Garden Center Production Manager and Human Resources to hire employees, provide feedback and give performance reviews and feedback for general employee or performance issues.
- Provide excellent customer service to assist customers in the selection of plant and landscape materials.
- Direct and participate in the work to set up the sales area in the spring and maintain it throughout the season, including creating and maintaining merchandising displays.
- Have strong knowledge base of our products and services in order to best help customers.
- Communicate expectations to team members, then hold them to the standards which will meet or exceed those expectations.
- Enforce Handbook policies with team members.
- Responsible for assisting in planting, and / or directing the work of those planting, in winter / spring.
- Maintain appearance of stock, including watering, trimming dead flowers, and general tidiness of the grounds.
- Assist in loading and unloading of landscape materials. Including, but not limited to : plants, block, natural stone, edging, etc.
- Assist and direct staff to pull orders for retail and wholesale customers.
- Maintain a positive attitude when working with customer and coworkers.
- Any other duties as assigned.
Minimum Education Required : High School Diploma or GED
Minimum Experience Required : 2 or more years of leadership experience, working with a wide range of ages and skills to get the work done preferred. 5 or more years of experience in the green industry, including working with plants, trees and / or shrubs preferred.
