Job Title : Day Habilitation Exercise Instructor
Repor.ng Supervisor : Day Habilitation Program Coordinator
Position Summary : The Exercise Instructor is responsible for creating and implementing engaging and fun
fitness classes. The teacher will plan and instruct engaging exercise routines to help improve participants'
physical health, coordination, social skills, and confidence in an encouraging environment tailored to their
abilities. The Exercise Instructor promotes participant health and wellbeing through physical activity, and
ensure a safe, supportive and fun exercise environment designed specifically for each individual or group.
Duties :
- Promote healthy movement, exercise, and personal growth among our Day Habilitations
Individuals at an appropriate level based on each participant's individual needs and goals.
Educate participants about the benefits of exercise and motivate them to participate actively inclasses.
Lead classes using cues, visual demonstration, and individual guidance to keep participantsengaged and actively participating.
Adapt movement and pace to suit ability levels of participantsPromote a fun, celebratory atmosphere with upbeat music and positive reinforcementAll other dues as assigned or requested by APluscareQualifications :
A minimum of 2 years of experience teaching dance, fitness, or movement1 year or more of previous experience with individuals with IDD, or similar environments; orequivalent education is preferred.
A minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent is requiredGroup fitness certification or equivalent training strongly preferredAbility to plan fun, simple routines combining cardio, strength, and aerobic exerciseGood verbal communication, cueing skills, and interpersonal skillsMust be at least 18 years of age.Physical Demands / Working Conditions :
Appropriate level of fitness and flexibility to run and instruct classesAbility to actively demonstrate moves for up to an hour at a timeCapable of moving freely to observe participants and provide hands-on guidanceThe ability to effectively communicate (orally and written) and interact with others, includingdiverse, inter-disciplinary, cross-functional teams.
The ability to read, concentrate and learn.Physical requirements include : sitting, bending, standing, kneeling, squatting, walking,exercising, high cardio tasks for extended periods of time, lifting in excess of 50 pounds, and
crisis management techniques including physical holds and restraints, and the ability to lead
exercise classes for up to 60 minutes.
Must have adequate vision and hearing to ensure safety during exercise.Excellent listening skills and ability to communicate effectively with individuals withdevelopmental disabilities.
