The facility is a large teaching hospital with a Level 1 Trauma designation. The MedSurg units comprise 20-36 beds, focusing on inpatient MedSurg patients. Patient ratios are typically 1 : 4-6 for RNs and LPNs. Certified Nursing Assistants will assist with vital signs, blood glucose checks, baths, and patient safety tasks. The unit includes a charge nurse and a resource nurse, with support from respiratory therapists and hospitalists available around the clock. The electronic medical record system utilized is EPIC. Travelers will be required to float among all Med / Tele units as needed. Unit culture is characterized by a busy, team-oriented environment.
