The County of San Luis Obispo is actively recruiting for Public Health Nurse I, II and Senior positions! This recruitment may be used to fill future permanent, temporary, substitute or limited term vacancies within the County.
The Public Health Department is currently recruiting for Public Health Nurses (PHN) to fill multiple vacancies in the Maternal Child and Adolescent Health Division.
About the Division:
Maternal, Child and Adolescent Health (MCAH) promotes and protects the health and well-being of women, infants, children, adolescents, and their families who are at increased risk of adverse health outcomes. MCAH is responsible for planning, implementing, and evaluating services that address population health priorities across San Luis Obispo County. The division partners and works collaboratively with the community to achieve population health goals through assessment, advocacy, education, training, outreach, quality assurance, and policy development.

Field Nursing positively impacts the health and well-being of hundreds of San Luis Obispo families through direct home-based interventions.
Field nursing in San Luis Obispo County includes Nurse Family Partnership, Healthy Families America, and an Early Support Program designed to build relationships, provide guidance and education, link to resources, and supports individuals and family groups from pre-pregnancy through the childhood years to meet their individualized goals. Each of these strength-based programs are voluntary for participants and aimed to reduce health disparities by delivering trauma-informed, family-centered, and culturally competent care.
Field nursing is looking for innovative and passionate Public Health Nurses who can practice autonomously out in the community and work as a partner within a larger system of community-based care providers. This position provides leadership opportunities, welcomes ideas and outside-the-box approaches and thinking.
Public Health Nurses working within Field Nursing spend approximately 80% of their working time in the community and 20% in an office setting.
The Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will have a passion for serving our community, contribute to our team's culture of collaboration, and demonstrate knowledge of the principles and practices of a public health nursing. Experience working with California Children's Services, Health Care Services, Maternal Child and Adolescent Health, Communicable Disease programs or as a Field Nurse is a plus. Candidates bilingual in Spanish are highly desirable.
The Minimum Qualifications are:
Public Health Nurse I: Possession of a valid California license to practice as a Registered Nurse AND a California Public Health Nurse Certificate. No experience required.
Public Health Nurse II: Either A: Two years of experience as a Public Health Nurse I; OR B: Two years of public health related experience in a public or private health care setting.
Senior Public Health Nurse: Either A: One year of experience as a Public Health Nurse II; OR B: Three years of public health related experience in a public or private health care setting. (Possession of a California credential to practice as a school nurse or an advanced degree in public health nursing or a public health related field may be substituted for one year of experience.)

Los Requisitos Mínimos Son:
Enfermero/a de Salud Pública I: Posesión de una licencia válida de California para practicar como Enfermero/a Registrado/a Y un Certificado de Enfermería de Salud Pública de California. No se necesita experiencia.
Enfermero/a de Salud Pública II: o bien A: Dos años de experiencia como Enfermera de Salud Pública I; O B: Dos años de experiencia relacionada con la salud pública en un entorno de atención médica público o privado.
Enfermero/a Senior de Salud Pública: o bien A: Un año de experiencia como Enfermera de Salud Pública II; O B: Tres años de experiencia relacionada con la salud pública en un entorno de atención médica público o privado. (La posesión de una credencial de California para ejercer como enfermera escolar o un título avanzado en enfermería de salud pública o un campo relacionado con la salud pública puede sustituirse por un año de experiencia).
