Job description

Position Type : Permanent (Contract-to-Perm, 90-day initial contract at $170 / hr with transition to full-time, $275,000 annual salary)

Schedule : 35 hours per week, MondayFriday

Compensation : $170 / hr during contract period; $275,000 annual salary upon permanent hire

Description

We are seeking a Chief of Psychiatry / Medical Director to oversee both administrative and clinical operations within a psychiatric program. This role involves leadership of psychiatric services, supervision of clinical staff, and direct patient care as needed. The Chief of Psychiatry will ensure compliance with all applicable standards, develop and implement psychiatric programs, and maintain the highest quality of care for patients.

This position starts as a 90-day contract and transitions into a full-time permanent role with a competitive salary and comprehensive benefits package.

Responsibilities

  • Administer and coordinate psychiatric services for an assigned area.
  • Ensure compliance with policies, regulations, accrediting bodies, and performance standards.
  • Provide clinical oversight, consultation, and advisory services to staff and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Supervise and evaluate psychiatrists, consultants, and other clinical providers.
  • Participate in hiring, disciplinary actions, staff development, and performance evaluations.
  • Develop and implement policies, procedures, and goals of psychiatric programs.
  • Conduct and participate in staff meetings, educational programs, and interdisciplinary team activities.
  • Monitor patient care delivery, medical records, and quality assurance initiatives.
  • Participate in budget preparation and ensure effective utilization of resources.
  • Provide direct psychiatric treatment to patients when necessary.
  • Review and respond to daily reports, ensure Medical Officer of the Day (MOD) coverage, and maintain 24 / 7 psychiatric availability.
  • Communicate with external providers regarding patient transfers, treatment, and outcomes.
  • Engage in quality improvement activities and review monitoring reports.
  • Represent psychiatric services in meetings, hearings, and committees as assigned.
  • Support recruitment and credentialing of psychiatric staff.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 3 years of clinical experience in psychiatry , including at least 1 year in a managerial or supervisory capacity .
  • Current license to practice medicine and surgery.
  • Board Certification (or eligibility) in Psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and team collaboration skills.
  • Ability to manage policies, staff, and clinical programs within a psychiatric setting.
  • Valid drivers license (required if vehicle operation is necessary to perform duties).

  • Expertise in psychiatry with ability to provide clinical and administrative leadership.
  • Ability to supervise, evaluate, and mentor clinical staff.
  • Strong understanding of regulatory compliance, accreditation standards, and quality improvement processes.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to communicate complex clinical information effectively.
  • Competence with electronic and manual medical record systems.
  • Commitment to patient-centered care, multidisciplinary teamwork, and program development.
