Senior Engineering Technician opportunity with KBR's Mission Engineering Division, delivering complex technical solutions and expert support to the U.S. Department of Defense. Our focus includes modeling and simulation, cyber transformation, air vehicle mission integration, and lifecycle support. We are seeking a Engineering Technician to join our team in the Development and Integration Laboratory in Lexington Park, MD . The ideal candidate will support the design, development, modification, and improvement of products and processes, including new designs and reverse engineering of obsolete designs to prototype, fabricate, assemble, test, document, and deliver to a wide variety of customers. Experience in a quality-driven organization with electronics and mechanical engineering technician skills, and a background in military avionics, communications, or electronics equipment, following quality management systems processes, is preferred.
Responsibilities
- Follow and assist in updating and establishing Safety and Quality Management System procedures and training, and mentor the team and other technicians.
- Work with limited supervision and review of work, with occasional tasks to provide integration support at customer laboratories and spaces. Plan, estimate, and accomplish work, resolve design and operational problems, and ensure completed work meets requirements. Read, redline, and edit wiring diagrams, circuit schematics, mechanical drawings, parts lists, and engineering instructions for assembling and testing equipment.
- Assist projects in design, material research and control, fabrication and prototyping, assembly and testing, and documentation and training to deliver models, prototypes, and end-items of devices, equipment, or systems. Fabricate parts and assemblies in plastic, composite, and metal; solder microelectronics circuitry on PCBs; wire enclosures and racks; and build military cable harnesses. Plan, conduct, record, and evaluate equipment test data, and draft reports of findings. Troubleshoot and correct malfunctions using test equipment and redesign as necessary. Plan, perform, and track lab and measurement equipment operation and maintenance, repair, and calibration actions.
Basic Qualifications
Citizenship : US CitizenClearance : DOD Secret clearance, or eligible to obtain clearance within 12 monthsEducation : Associate Degree with a minimum of 5 years of related experience with soldering assembly of microelectronics and military wire harness and cable assembly; or an equivalent combination of 9 years of experience and related training in electronics or related advanced engineering technician courses.Experience : At least 5 years as an Engineering Technician directly supporting military avionics or electronics design, modifications, repair, or related projects.Preferred Qualifications
Experience with ISO-9001 and / or AS9100 QMS processes.Experience with 3D CAD modeling software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Creo) and MATLAB for developing complex virtual concept designs.Experience with soldering complex surface mount microelectronics onto PCBs, ideally with IPC J-STD-001 certification.Experience with assembly of military aircraft wire harnesses and cables using standard crimp tools and soldering practices per NAVAIR 01-1A-505-1 (SAE AS50881); ideally IPC / WHMA-A-620 certification.Experience with subtractive and additive manufacturing (3D printing).Experience working in a small team on multiple concurrent projects.Experience assembling and documenting complex electronic avionics and weapon systems, and conducting testing to verify compliance with military requirements.Experience repairing, maintaining, and operating complex military avionics and weapons systems, including racks, enclosures, and cable harness assemblies.Proficiency with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Teams, and SharePoint.Compensation and Benefits
Basic Compensation : $63,000-$85,000. The salary range posted is based on the national average and the offered rate will reflect location, knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience, contract affordability, and internal parity.
Additional Compensation : KBR may offer bonuses, commissions, or other forms of compensation per internal policy or contractual designation, including sign-on bonuses, relocation benefits, short-term and long-term incentives, or discretionary payments for exceptional performance.
