Overview
Lead Associate, Financial Accounting & Reporting – Save the Children. You’ll be integral to accounting operations, including affiliate accounting and consolidations, external reporting for audit / tax and management reporting, and supporting compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
Location : Hybrid – Washington DC, Fairfield, CT or Lexington, KY office locations.
What You’ll Be Doing (Essential Duties)
- Affiliate Accounting (20%) : Prepare accounting entries related to affiliates (overhead allocations, eliminating entries, regular business activities); review affiliate trial balances for issues or adjustments; liaise with Senior Advisor to support different business lines with accounting guidance; document Standard Operating Procedures to ensure consistency and compliance.
- Recurring Reporting and Preparations for Audit / Tax (20%) : Prepare reporting on a regular basis for review and comment; develop reporting packet of external reporting requirements for management review; support testing and enhancements of agency reporting and tools; support preparations for meetings with other divisions on external reporting initiatives.
- Financial Accounting and Analysis (40%) : Prepare monthly journal entries (e.g., planned giving, investments, fixed assets, inventory, gifts in kind); ensure general ledger accounts are reconciled to subsidiary records monthly; maintain reconciliation files with planned giving external advisors and follow up on unusual items; prepare investment reconciliation reports monthly; prepare fixed assets and inventory reconciliation and other reports; maintain supporting documentation; assist in coordinating balance sheet reviews with finance focal points; perform deep dive reviews in accounting topic areas to support business cases with stakeholders.
- Standard Operating Procedures (10%) : Prepare, update, develop and publish operating procedures for financial accounting and processes linked to other teams.
- Support Transformation Projects (10%) : Assist in the rollout of transformation projects by compiling metrics and data analyses; coordinate transition activities from project to business as usual; provide testing support as projects go live; review documentation content and formatting; manage intranet documentation.
Required Qualifications For The Role
Minimum of a High School Diploma or equivalent, plus at least 3 years of relevant experienceStrong knowledge of intercompany accountingStrong reconciliations and problem-solving skillsDemonstrated experience with US Government fundingDemonstrated knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting PrinciplesDemonstrated knowledge of general ledger and financial systemsAttention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects across divisionsAbility to deliver prompt and accurate information with multiple deadlinesExperience working in financial management systemsProfessional proficiency in MS Office suite with advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, v-lookups, formulas) for reconciliations and data analysisProfessional proficiency in spoken and written EnglishPreferred Qualifications For The Role

Save the Children is offering the following salary ranges for this position, dependent on candidate location :
Geo 1 - NY Metro, DC, and other locations with labor costs significantly above national average : $66,300 – $74,100 base salaryGeo 2 - Locations around the US National Labor Cost Average : $60,350 – $67,450 base salaryGeo 3 - Locations significantly below the US National Labor Cost Average : $54,400 – $60,800 base salaryThe salary ranges listed above are for US based candidates. For candidates located outside of the US, salary ranges will be based on local salary scales. Actual base salary may vary based on experience, internal peers, business sector, and geographic location.
