Overview :
The Department of Medical Education at the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center El Paso – Paul L. Foster School of Medicine is seeking a candidate for a full-time clinician educator and college mentor position on the tenure or non-tenure track. The successful candidate will dedicate approximately 20-30% time and effort to clinical practice (no nights, weekends, or calls required), with the balance of time devoted to teaching, student mentoring, service, and scholarship. Although this position is specifically oriented to the pre-clerkship phase of the curriculum, clinician educators are generally involved in all aspects of the educational program.
A prominent feature of our curriculum is the establishment of colleges, or learning communities, which serve as the academic and social homes for our medical students. Each college is supervised by a team of faculty mentors, who in addition to their student mentoring roles, collaboratively teach a discussion-based course (the College Colloquium) that addresses issues related to ethics, humanities, professionalism, teamwork, contemporary challenges in medicine, and the roles of physicians in medical and social systems. College mentors also work with basic and clinical science educators to develop and deliver a clinical presentation-based curriculum that integrates clinical reasoning and clinical skills development with the scientific and social foundations of medicine.
