Director of Engineering – Developer Experience

Overview

PayPal is seeking an experienced Director of Engineering to lead 50+ engineers in the Developer Experience (DevEx) organization. Build world-class tools, platforms & docs empowering developers in the PayPal ecosystem. Define a strategic roadmap to enhance productivity with AI / documentation tooling and no-code / low-code solutions for seamless API integration.

Essential Responsibilities

• Directs and controls the delivery of business and technical outcomes that comprise multiple projects and operational activities within a domain through organizational and technical leadership.
• Defines engineering health objectives that drive organization health, engineering best practices and operational targets.
• Drives product and technical strategy with cross-functional leaders across the enterprise to deliver domain goals.
• Responsible for the delivery of programs, establishing annual organizational goals and ensuring performance and results that impact both their domain and potentially enterprise.
• Develops engineering strategy that translates into operational and tactical plans; uses ground-breaking methods to think beyond existing solutions.
• Sets the tri-annual roadmap for a domain level organization and defines the operational strategy based on a defined budget.
• Evaluates key business challenges and can complete complex, ambiguous initiatives with impact across engineering; directs the development of new or innovative solutions.
• Collaborates with direct team, managers in org, stakeholders, managers in other orgs, external partners and business stakeholders.

This role will take ownership for : Leadership & People Management; Vision & Strategy; Execution & Delivery; Stakeholder Engagement. As a key member of our AI Strategy team, this role shapes the future of AI across the company, driving high-impact initiatives aligned with long-term business goals, leveraging AI to unlock innovation, efficiency, and growth. You will work cross-functionally to identify strategic opportunities, design scalable AI programs, and establish partnerships with internal and external teams.

Compensation & Benefits

PayPal is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. The U.S. national annual pay range for this role is $169,500 to $291,500. Actual compensation is based on location, skills and experience. Total compensation may include an annual performance bonus (or other incentive), equity, and medical, dental, vision, and other benefits.
