Jefferson Wells is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Cost Accounting Consultant for a long-term engagement (up to 2 yrs) with a manufacturing client located in Marengo, IL. This hybrid role offers a dynamic opportunity to contribute to both cost and general accounting functions in a collaborative team environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Cost Accounting

Record all production-related costs including direct materials, labor, and overhead.

Assist with annual standard cost updates and analysis.

Support readiness controls and activation of standard costs for new items.

Contribute to cost roll-ups for quoting purposes.

Collaborate with Operations to resolve cost data accuracy issues.

Calculate unit costs for finished goods.

Analyze variances between standard and actual costs.

Investigate and resolve inventory discrepancies (e.g., BOM errors, negative inventory).

General Accounting

Perform reconciliations for general ledger accounts and resolve discrepancies.

Prepare monthly journal entries and support month-end close processes.

Analyze financial data and provide variance analysis with actionable insights.

Collaborate with the accounting team to ensure accurate financial reporting.

Perform additional general accounting duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting.

Minimum of 5 years of experience in general and cost accounting from a manufacturing setting.

Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Ability to work effectively in a team environment.

Detail-oriented, self-directed, and highly motivated with strong problem-solving and multitasking abilities.

Technical Skills

Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel and Word).

Experience with Microsoft Dynamics AX or similar accounting software preferred.

Strong analytical skills and ability to work independently with large data sets.
