Job description

Lead Signs & Markings Technician

DFW Airport is seeking a skilled Lead Signs & Markings Technician to play a critical role in maintaining compliance and safety across our airport facilities. In this role, you'll lead signage and pavement marking projects that support both public spaces and airfield operationsensuring regulatory compliance, safety, and operational excellence.

What you'll do :

  • Lead and participate in the design, fabrication, installation, and maintenance of airport signage and pavement markings.
  • Operate specialized graphics systems and software to produce complex graphics.
  • Perform layouts, installations, and removals of pavement markings in compliance with FAA, TX-DOT, MUTCD, FHWA, and Board standards.
  • Utilize screen printing, lamination, drafting, and geometric processes for precise fabrication.
  • Operate and maintain advanced equipment including truck-mounted and walk-behind stripers, water blasters, shot blasters, grinders, and aerial lifts.
  • Act as project leader for assigned tasks, coordinating support personnel and ensuring timely, accurate completion.
  • Maintain detailed work records, inventory, and project documentation using Oracle-based systems.
  • Serve as substitute Supervisor when assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 3+ years of experience in sign fabrication and pavement marking.
  • At least 1 year of leadership or supervisory experience.
  • Valid Class B Commercial Driver's License (or ability to obtain within probationary period).
  • Ability to pass a color vision test and medical physical exam.

    • Key Skills and Expertise

  • Proficiency in modern sign fabrication, including photographic process screen printing and computer-aided vinyl systems.
  • Knowledge of pavement marking materials, including paints, tapes, raised markers, and thermoplastics.
  • Strong understanding of FAA, FHWA, MUTCD, and TX-DOT regulations for signage and markings.
  • Skilled in using test equipment, precision tools, and heavy equipment safely.
  • Ability to lead teams, evaluate performance, and provide project direction.
  • Effective communication skills, including use of FAA phonetic alphabet via two-way radios.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and apply specifications, schematics, and drawings.

    • Preferred Qualifications

  • Two-year technical degree in a related field.
  • Previous airport signage and markings experience.
  • Manufacturer certifications in sign / marking systems.

    • Working Conditions

  • Outdoor work in all weather conditions, including exposure to chemicals, paints, thinners, and adhesives.
  • Manual labor including lifting up to 50 lbs. frequently and 100 lbs. occasionally.
  • Work at heights using ladders and manlifts, and in awkward positions.
  • Use of hand, power, and precision tools.
  • Communication via two-way radio, telephone, and computer.
