Job Summary

OPPORTUNITY

This position will make an impact on the lives of students with disabilities by providing transition services through a TPP contract and Special Education Services. Time is split 80% and 20%, respectively. Transition Services are provided through a cooperative program Transition Partnership Program (TPP) contract. This contract is between the Department of Rehabilitation (DOR) and Green Dot Public Schools. Case-carriers, school counselors, school psychologists, and school administrators refer students between the ages of 16-21 years old to TPP. The goal of this position is to prepare students with disabilities for employment through DOR Student Services, which includes job exploration counseling, workplace readiness training, work-based learning opportunities, post-secondary education counseling and instruction in self-advocacy. Support for a larger population of students with disabilities is provided under Green Dot's Special Education Program in collaboration with case-carriers and school counselors.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

DOR Student Services Program Duties :

Educate case-carriers on DOR Student Services and eligibility.

Assist potentially eligible TPP students with gathering appropriate documentation for DOR.

Identify current TPP student connections to other agencies : Regional Center, SSI, SSDI.

Develop lesson plans and activities for job exploration counseling, workplace readiness training, instruction in self-advocacy and post-secondary education counseling.

Identify, assess, and evaluate potentially eligible student's interests, performance and needs.

Provide job exploration counseling.

Provide workplace readiness training.

Connect students to work-based learning experiences based on strengths and interests.

Coordinate and conduct work-based learning experiences, site logistics meetings with business partners, TPP Job Placement Specialist / Job Coach, and TPP students.

Identify and 'troubleshoot' problems that occur at work-based learning experience sites with TPP student, TPP Job Placement Specialist / Job Coach, students, employers and case-carriers, such as production problems, the method of performing tasks, relationships with co-workers, boredom, frustration, etc.

Provide instruction in self-advocacy.

Provide post-secondary education counseling.

Collaborate with school counselors to plan and prepare students with self-advocacy skills to leverage post-secondary education and employment supports. Initiates and maintains contact with a variety of businesses and industry representatives as part of work-based learning experiences.

Compile notes for TPP student's monthly and quarterly progress report based on interactions and supports provided under DOR Student Services.

Assist in linking TPP students with public support agencies to help them increase their independence and make progress in DOR Student Services.

Participate in TPP / DOR monthly collaborative and quarterly meetings.

Utilize community, post-secondary education and business resources to enhance delivery of DOR Student Services.

Participate in community employer networks and Chamber of Commerce meetings.

Special Education Department Duties :

Conduct age-appropriate transition assessments based on identified post-secondary outcome goals.

Collaborate with students, staff and families in developing annual transition services / activities and IEP goals reflective of the transition assessment(s).

Assist potentially eligible TPP students with completing DOR Student Services Request form.

Email monthly updates on TPP services to pertinent school staff.

Assist transition staff in developing and providing pre-employment and career awareness activities to Freshman and Sophomore Green Dot Public Schools California students.

Plan and conduct activities, which will expose students to career pathways and independent living skills.

Actively participate in staff development and transition meetings.

Assist with developing student transition portfolios.

QUALIFICATIONS

As an ideal candidate, you :

possess a bachelor's degree (required)

hold a valid CA Preliminary / Level 1 or Clear / Level II Education Specialist credential or be eligible for a CA Education Specialist Intern credential OR Pupil Personnel Service Credential.

have prior experience developing partnerships / relationships with local businesses.

have a minimum of 2 years of experience working with high school students, preferably students with disabilities.

have a strong knowledge of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act

have thorough knowledge of job market trends and current training programs available through educational institutions, community organizations and employers.

possess knowledge of laws applicable to the employment of youth and students as well as individuals with disabilities.

are passionate about improving public education to help all children reach their dreams

have excellent verbal, written communication, and social networking skills.

have excellent collaborative and organizational skills.

have a strong ethical base and self-awareness.

can demonstrate the ability to effectively interact with members of community organizations and potential employers in seeking and securing employment and training opportunities for youth.

can demonstrate the ability to persuade and motivate youth in work and job preparation objectives.

can demonstrate the ability to compile data, prepare reports and maintain accurate and detailed records as well as operate a variety of office equipment such as a personal computer, scanner / copier, etc.

are bi-lingual in English / Spanish (a plus)

are able to maintain a flexible job schedule since some evening and weekend availability is required.

have and can maintain a clean driving record and reliable source of transportation.

will be able to pass a TB test and background check at time of offer.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Work Hours : This position requires consistent attendance during scheduled hours, as flexibility is limited by classroom or operational requirements.

Breaks : Breaks are structured within the workday and must align with operational needs and student care requirements. Extended or frequent breaks may not be feasible in this setting.

Physical Requirements : The position may require certain physical abilities, such as interacting with students, or moving through various parts of the school.

Social Requirements : The position requires extensive interaction with students, colleagues, and members of the public.

On-Site Presence : This role requires regular, in-person attendance to meet the needs of students, staff, and the school environment. Remote work / telecommuting is generally not an option.

COMPENSATION

The starting salary range for this position is $71,000 - $80,000. Opportunities for salary growth are available over time; however, offers near the upper end of the salary range are uncommon. Individual education and experience will be considered when issuing offers.
