Position Overview
Performs the following in an accurate and timely manner : greets patients, performs intake according to current protocols, assists professional staff during consultations and procedures, supports instrument sterilization function, cross-covers phone support, as well as check-in position; and supports other designated administrative duties. Demonstrates effective customer service skills and a professional manner. Adheres to practice mission and values and applicable regulations.
Supervision Received
Reports directly to the designated Team Lead and ASC Director.
Job Duties
1. Performs patient intake and prepares patients for consultation or procedures.
2. Initiates office visit template entering the required components for all patients seen in the office.
3. Monitors vital signs (BP, pulse, height, weight) on every patient that is new or has not been seen in 90 days.
4. Assists practitioners during vein and other minor procedures.
5. Cleans / sterilizes instruments, bed bays, and / or examination rooms on a routine basis.
6. Removes sutures or staples from post-op patients and performs wound care as ordered; documents treatment if patient was not seen by physician during the visit.
7. Assists in answering phones using a welcoming tone and effective customer service skills.
8. Provides support for pre-authorizations and referrals, as well as pre-operative calls.
9. Transcribes all clinical messages in the electronic medical record; and when appropriate, routed to the provider.
10. Stocks rooms daily / weekly as necessary.
11. Assists with monitoring supply inventory and ordering medical and surgical supplies.
12. Travel between offices as scheduled.
13. Performs duties of any person in the department for purposes of cross-coverage.
14. Performs other duties as assigned.
15. Reports, in a timely manner, to manager, if having difficulty in performing these duties as described.
16. Adheres to all policies and procedures and applicable regulations in performing these duties.
17. Functions as an effective team member.
18. Attends staff meetings.
19. Consistently demonstrates a commitment to customer service, the practice’s mission and values, and a professional manner.
Associated Requirements
The following requirements are essential to this position :
High school diploma or equivalent
Medical assisting certification or experience, preferred OR intent to attend graduate level program, eg medical school, PA school, etc.
Current CPR certification
Experience working with computer applications
Knowledge of medical office procedures
Working knowledge of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar
Knowledge of principles for providing customer service
Ability to operate computers and other office equipment including photocopier and printer
Ability to handle the following physical requirements : sitting for long periods of time; stooping, bending and stretching for files and supplies; occasional lifting files or paper weighing up to 30 lbs; manual dexterity sufficient to operate a keyboard, type at 60wpm; using a computer screen for long periods; keep up with assignments in a high volume environment with many interruptions.
