Controls (Engineering) Supervisor
Summary
The Controls Engineering Supervisor leads a team in designing, developing, and maintaining control systems for industrial processes and automation. This role ensures projects are delivered on time, within budget, and meet performance standards, while collaborating with maintenance, production, and safety teams for seamless system operations.
Responsibilities
Team Leadership & Development
Supervise, mentor, and develop a team of controls engineers.
Allocate tasks, manage workloads, and conduct performance reviews.
Foster a collaborative, safe, and inclusive work environment.
Project Management
Oversee control system projects from concept to commissioning—ensuring they meet specifications, budgets, and deadlines.
Coordinate schedules, track progress, and optimize resource allocation.
Serve as the key point of contact for controls-related initiatives across departments.
Technical Oversight
Lead the design, installation, and troubleshooting of industrial control systems, including PLCs, HMIs, SCADA, and related automation technologies.
Ensure systems comply with safety standards, regulatory requirements, and internal quality benchmarks.
Promote continuous improvement through system performance reviews and technology upgrades.
Collaboration & Reporting
Work cross-functionally with production, maintenance, operations, and engineering teams to align automation efforts with business goals.
Prepare reports and present project updates, KPIs, and system performance metrics to senior leadership.
Compliance & Standards
Ensure adherence to ISO 14001, IATF 16949, OHSAS 18001, MAFACT, AODA, and C-TPAT requirements.
Support environmental policy implementation and conduct annual EMS reviews.
Qualifications
Degree / Diploma in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, Mechatronics, or related field (required).
At least 5 years of experience in controls engineering or automation, with 2+ years in a supervisory or leadership role.
Proven leadership skills with experience in leading controls or automation engineering teams.
Strong expertise in PLCs, SCADA, DCS, and other industrial control systems.
Proficient in control system design, programming, and troubleshooting (e.g., Allen-Bradley, Siemens).
Familiarity with industrial communication protocols (Ethernet / IP, Modbus, Profibus).
Knowledge of ISO 14001 / TS 16949 procedures and industrial automation standards.
Experience with electrical circuits, instrumentation, and high-speed assembly processes.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Visio, PowerPoint, MS Project).
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
Commitment to continuous improvement and staying up-to-date with emerging technologies.
In-depth understanding of industrial control systems, automation platforms, and safety regulations.
