Positive Support Specialist

Overview

As a Positive Support Specialist, you will work with high functioning individuals who have severe and persistent mental illness (SPMI) and challenging behaviors to become more independent. These behaviors can include, but are not limited to, verbal / physical aggression, property destruction, self-injurious behaviors, suicidal ideation / attempts, and elopement.

You will also :

• Assist individuals to be more independent in performing essential life skills such as meal preparation, personal hygiene, and navigating the community.
• Advocate for the people supported in all aspects of their life in areas such as rights, medical care, and in the community.
• Participate with the individuals in a variety of events and activities.
• Complete necessary documentation and record-keeping every shift.
• Manage crisis situations safely and effectively - this can include potential use of manual restraints. Candidates will receive training on manual restraints in conjunction with the 245D requirements.
• Engage in trauma-informed care daily.
