Description : SUMMARY :

The Sustaining Engineer II is the vital technical conduit between the Design Engineer and Operations team, collaborating with areas such as design & application engineering, manufacturing engineering, fabrication, assembly, planning, and purchasing. This role demands a high sense of urgency, follow-up, and a commitment to driving issues to completion. Positioned directly on the production floors of the fabrication and assembly buildings, the engineer will take full ownership of issues, ensure accountability and provide exceptional customer service to Operations functions. By maintaining smooth operation and continuous improvement of product lines, the Sustaining Engineer II plays a crucial role in ensuring product quality and operational efficiency.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :

  • Serve as the technical liaison between Design & Application Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, and Operations, facilitating effective communication and problem resolution.
  • Provide on-floor support in fabrication and assembly areas to offer immediate technical assistance and troubleshooting.
  • Collaborate with operations supervisors, leads, managers, and the master scheduler to address and resolve issues related to Bill of Materials (BOM), Methods of Manufacturing (MOM), Bill of Operations (BOO), drawings (DWG), schematics, and labeling.
  • Tackle production challenges such as setbacks, bend deductions, K-factors, callouts, missing or incorrect parts, parts substitution, design discrepancies, and alignment or wiring problems.
  • Suggest and implement improvements in manufacturing processes and design practices based on thorough analysis and feedback from production experience.
  • Document and log production data, providing actionable feedback to the design team for product and process enhancements.
  • Ensure the accurate completion of red lines and blue lines on job travelers, drawings, and schematics on the production floor, and follow up to confirm updates with planners and fabrication supervisors.
  • Coordinate with sourcing / purchasing departments to manage changes related to purchased parts and ensure seamless communication and implementation of modifications.
  • Perform design tasks, including 3D modeling, schematic and label creation, and drawing (DWG) production, during periods without specific sustaining engineering duties.
  • Effectively communicate project status and information needs with the project team, executive team, engineering, and other departments as required.
  • Coordinate with team members when activities overlap.
  • Follow all defined processes in Epicor and adhere to all operations processes, ensuring compliance and alignment with company standards and best practices.
  • Perform other tasks as needed, demonstrating flexibility and adaptability to meet the dynamic needs of the manufacturing environment.

QUALIFICATIONS :

  • Proven work experience as an Engineer in a manufacturing environment
  • Desire to be “Hands On” in problem solving on the production floor
  • Must be detail-orientated and deadline-driven
  • 5+ years of technical experience working with electrical & power equipment
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Excellent people skills
  • Excellent math skills
  • Computer proficient in MS Office 365, SolidWorks, SigmaNest and AutoCAD
  • Ability to quickly understand manufacturing methods
  • Familiarity with Epicor MRP / ERP systems for BOM’s, travelers, inventory, etc.
  • Ability to accept responsibility.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with limited supervision while adhering to project deadlines
  • Complete fluency in technical English (speech, reading and writing)
  • EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or equivalent required.
  • Green belt certification preferred.
  • Design experience and proficiency in SolidWorks and ACAD required.
  • Working knowledge in designing and testing of electro-mechanical power systems
  • Experience with electronics and control systems is preferred
  • Bilingual in Spanish preferred
  • Data analysis experience preferred
  • Sheet metal experience preferred
