Responsibilities and Duties
Provide comprehensive nursing care, including executing physicians orders, dispensing and administering medications, and performing examinations and treatmentsOrder, interpret, and evaluate diagnostic tests to assess patient clinical problems and healthcare needsRecord physical findings, formulate prognosis, and collaborate with physicians and healthcare professionals to prepare patient care plansRecommend appropriate drugs and treatments within licensure scopeMonitor inpatient hospitalizations and ensure timely release when appropriateVerify cleanliness of equipment and work areas, supervising as neededAssist with oversight of required contractual health servicesMaintain strong working relationships with facility staff, contract providers, and outside agenciesApply established corporate, facility, and correctional policies, using sound independent judgmentRegularly evaluate medical services to prevent inappropriate or duplicate careMaintain security and confidentiality of medical records, ensuring all services are documentedMonitor potential catastrophic illnesses and recommend improvements in operational efficiency and cost effectivenessAudit pharmacy use for formulary adherence and pharmacy law complianceObserve and record inmate or resident behaviorAccept on-call status as requiredProvide health counseling and education individually or in groupsInterpret medical and legal documents, including processing legal writs and commitment ordersReview and respond to lawsuits, attend court hearings, and conduct chart research as necessaryCommunicate effectively with administration, staff, inmates, visitors, and the public, demonstrating tact and sound judgmentAttend staff meetings and participate in multidisciplinary committees to promote quality healthcare servicesWork in confined areas, rotating shifts, and ensure facility security by checking doors and windowsEvaluate and recommend physical safety requirements for a safe work environmentAdditional Information
